Billy Six (born 24 December 1986) is a German journalist, documentarian and author. He was a war reporter for German newspaper Junge Freiheit in Egypt in 2011, and since then he started to report in many conflict ridden countries, such as Libya,[1] Syria,[2] Lebanon,[3] and Ukraine.[4] He got arrested in Syria by the Syrian army in December 2012 while working for Junge Freiheit.[5] Six was held for 12 weeks under local laws, until he was released to Russian diplomats residing in Damascus.[6][7]

Early life[]

Six was born in 1986 in East Berlin. His professional career started as a business administrator and member in local parliament of Neuenhagen,[8] after graduating from high school in 2006.

Arrest in Venezuela[]

Six was similarly arrested and detained in the intelligence prison of the SEBIN, "El Helicoide" by the Venezuelan secret service DGCIM. He was found guilty of being a German spy, and was arrested on 17 November 2018 at an inn in  [es], a beach town located in Los Taques Municipality near Punto Fijo.[9]

The charges of espionage, rebellion, and violation of security zones were presented before a military court and were denied by his defense, saying "they were without foundation".[10]

On 13 December 2018, Six began a hunger strike.[11][12][13] The case of Six attracted much controvery, attracting the Reporters Without Borders to consider the allegations unproven and called for his release.[14]

On 16 March 2019, Six was granted conditional permission to leave the country. These conditions included: reporting t authorities at 15-day intervals, and refusal of media coverage.[14][15] In October 2020 Six disclosed in an article in Deutschland Magazin that the American UN Independent Expert for the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order had advocated for his release.[16] Zayas confirmed this in an interview in January 2021.[17]

Publishing career[]

Six has written for different newspapers and print magazines, including D Magazine, Junge Freiheit,[18] esoteric, conspiracy Magazin Raum & Zeit,[19] Globetrotter,[20] and Preußische Allgemeine.

He had been working for a year in Ukraine, covering the conflict and the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17) incident. He was interviewed by the BBC in the documentary Conspiracy Files: Who Shot Down MH17 (May 2016).[21]

Six covered the refugees in Europe, researching the border area between Greece and Macedonia, at Budapest main station or Freilassing border crossing into Germany. He was traveling a month with the refugees; his results were published by Junge Freiheit TV: ″The Refugee Deception″.[22]
