Bissan Al-Lazikani

Bissan Al-Lazikani is a data scientist. She is head of data science at the Institute of Cancer Research and current head of the Knowledge Hub Big Data Team.[1] Al-Lazikani is known for her work using Big Data in cancer research.

Education[]

She studied as an undergraduate at UCL in molecular biology. Her M.Sc in Computer Science is from Imperial College and she has a PhD in Computational Biology from Cambridge University,[2][3] where she was supervised by Cyrus Chothia. She also has a pilot's licence.[4]

Career[]

Al-Lazikani worked on developing Knowledgedatabase canSAR, a free, online database that combines information from different biosciences and clinical annotations to produce predictions for cancer drug development.[5] This database was also used for coronavirus research.[6]

Her published works have specialised in drug discovery, genomics, small molecule drug discovery and new drug discovery.[7] As of September 2020 she is associated with 107 papers.[7] She has also worked in the commercial sector.
