Black Seeds: The History of Africans in America documents the socioeconomic reasons behind the development of the transatlantic slave trade and shows how the institution of chattel slavery took root in the United States of America.

Development[]

Black Seeds is based on the best-selling 2020 textbook Black History 1619-2019: An Illustrated and Documented African-American History by Sandra K. Yocum and Frances Presley Rice. Carey Conley, an Atlanta, Georgia native and a graduate of Specs Howard School of Media Arts was cast as lead narrator before filming began on April 28, 2020. The seven month production featured a dozen supporting voice actors from four different countries.[1]
