Blacka'nized

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blacka'nized were a Scottish hip hop group from the mid-1990s, composed of Joseph Malik and A.J Nutall, from Edinburgh.

History[]

Joseph Malik was born in Glasgow but moved through to Edinburgh in the early 1990s after visiting Edinburgh for the 1993 International Arts Festival and deciding not to go back to Glasgow. While in Edinburgh Joseph Malik met producer A.J Nutall, an old friend from the early 1980s hip hop scene.

MF Outa'National was the first incarnation of the collaboration between the two, and under this name their track "Miles Out of Time" was released on the Mo' Wax Headz Vol. 1 album.

In 1994, Malik and A.J came to the home of the Stereo MCs, and fellow DJs Sace and Easi's label Response Records. It was here that Malik and A.J took the name Blacka'nized and a number of EPs and album projects were released to great acclaim.[citation needed] In 1996, Blacka'nized left Response to set up their own label in Edinburgh called Yush2K. At the Yusk2K label they continued to produce work and also helped produce other up-and-coming artists such as and a young KT Tunstall.
