"Bling Bling" is a song by New Orleans rapper B.G., released as the second single from his fifth studio album Chopper City in the Ghetto. It features Hot Boys and Big Tymers. The single peaked at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it B.G.'s most successful single to date.
The unedited album version features verses from, in order, Birdman, Turk, Mannie Fresh, Juvenile, and B.G.. Lil Wayne does the chorus and outro, but does not have a verse. The clean and radio edited version features a verse from Lil Wayne in place of Turk, and Lil Wayne still does the chorus, however some edits keep the Turk verse and mutes obscenities while the other has Wayne's verse with a mix of amended lyrics and muting obscenities and another edit that backmasks profanity. The song helped give mainstream popularity to the hip-hop slang term "bling bling", a term denoting shiny jewelry, flashy, elaborate dress or decadent shows of wealth. B.G. created the term and credits writers T. Virgil, C.Dorsey, D. Carter with executive producers Manny Fresh,M. Burnett
Critical reception[]
In 2013, Complex added the song in its list of nineteen great songs made by teenage rappers in the last 19 years. Complex editor Kyle Kramer said "Featuring carefree money boasts over a spry Mannie Fresh beat, the song still sounds relevant today in the Young Money era, proving the staying power of both diamonds and youth."[1]
