Kawaki wakes from a nightmare of Jigen laying waste to the Hidden Leaf, including the Uzumaki family. Himawari notifies Boruto, that Kawaki is missing. Boruto goes out and finds Kawaki on the roof. After eating, Boruto asks Kawaki to come train together, but he refuses, stating, that their Karmas will eventually transform their bodies, and if they resonate with each others' Karma, it will speed up the process. In the meantime, Hima has been secretly stealing food and as she heads out with a packed bag, Kawaki stops her. She reveals, that she has been feeding a wounded stray wolf named Jaggy. The two collect berries for the hungry wolf while coming to understand each other more. Once they return, they find Jaggy surrounded by a pack of feral wolves. When he gets home, Kawaki tosses a letter he wrote into the trash in frustration. In the morning, Kawaki and Hima go out to buy more food for Jaggy, while Boruto and Mitsuki ponder on what might be troubling Kawaki, while also helping Hinata around the house. When Himawari and Kawaki return to the woods, they find Jaggy dead and Kawaki comforts Himawari. After burying the poor animal, Kawaki tells Hima to go home, while he tries leaving the village. Boruto stops him by the gate and reveals, that Hinata had found his letter, which was a goodbye note to Naruto. Boruto realizes Kawaki blames himself, that Jigen came to the Leaf through him, but Kawaki explains, that because of his Karma, Jigen can come and go to the Leaf anytime he wants, and it's never going to be safe for them, as long as he stays. Boruto tries to reason with him by saying, that nobody can shoulder those burdens by themselves and together they are stronger, but Kawaki retorts by saying, that it's Uzumaki's fault, that his senses had dulled, and he's better off on his own. Before the argument could continue further, Shikamaru shows up to stop Kawaki from leaving, which surprises the latter, since Shikamaru was vocally against him staying the entire time. Shikamaru explains, that while his feelings on the matter haven't changed, he will support Naruto's decision regarding Kawaki either way and that there is no other village in the world, which would take Kawaki in any way. Shikamaru elaborates, that Kawaki is no longer the sole target of Kara either since Boruto has a Karma seal as well. As he is leaving, Shikamaru also adds, that whether he likes it or not, Kawaki is already a citizen of the Hidden Leaf. Resigned from his decision to leave, Kawaki returns to Jaggy's grave, where he finds Himawari paying respect.

Code grows bored, guarding Kara's Ten-Tails, so he goes to meet Jigen. He instructs the former to be very wary, even though the coordinates to the dimension have been changed. Delta arrives and reports of Boro's death and Naruto's escape. Jigen instructs her to come by to the base physically for a mission. Meanwhile, Shikamaru and Sai brief Konohamaru about Boro and his cult in the Hokage Office. Upon Naruto and Shikamaru's orders, Sai and Konohamaru are to infiltrate Boro's cult, outside of the Five Great Nations' jurisdiction, and retrieve any intel they can about Kara. After arriving at the temple, a follower of Boro named Akari advises them to talk to Shirabe, a higher-up cultist, since Boro is unavailable. She reveals, that Boro "saved" her and her brother Kagari from a plague and, that Kagari has been on an important pilgrimage mission for years. Following their meeting with the higher-ups Shirabe and Tsuzumi, Konohamaru and Sai are given a tour by Inori, Boro's right-hand servant. They soon begin investigating on their own, and sow doubt about Boro's intentions and his wellbeing. They tell Tsuzumi that they have heard rumors about Leaf Shinobi killing Boro recently. Panicked, Tsuzumi goes below and accesses a secret lab, to use a console in an effort to contact Boro, to no avail. Sai and Konohamaru corner him and gain information from some notes, while Tsuzumi grabs a vial of Boro's virus. He tosses it on Konohamaru to escape, but they catch up soon, revealing themselves as immune, thanks to Mitsuki. Tsuzumi calls upon the other cultists, who surround the two. The two reveal themselves as Hidden Leaf ninja and begin unraveling Boro's lies, and reveal, that he is dead. When prompted by the cult, Sai also shows them a notebook with all the people sent into pilgrimage, revealing them as test subjects for Kara's experiments, and that they are actually dead. As Akari breaks down, Shirabe and Inori bolster the morale of the cultists. During the commotion, Delta steps through Kara's Space-Time Gate in the secret lab and begins demolishing the temple. Konohamaru fails to save Tsuzumi from falling debris, so he hurries to Akari's side. Sai suggests they split up to evacuate more cultists, with Sai going for people further away. Konohamaru tries comforting Akari, while Inori, Shirabe and other higher-ups voice their disbelief about Boro's demise. Before Konohamaru could sway and save them, one of Delta's blasts annihilates them all. Konohamaru takes Akari and sees Delta outside, laying waste to the temple grounds. Satisfied with destroying the Space-Time Gate and most of the temple, Delta flies off, just as Konohamaru and Sai get all the survivors out. Back at the Leaf, the duo report upon their findings regarding Boro's Ōtsutsuki and Infinite Tsukuyomi-worshipping cult, as well as on the fact that Delta is alive. Shikamaru notes, that they haven't gotten any closer to solving the mystery of Kara, though Naruto assures them, that they will defeat them all, including Jigen.

Koji Kashin is seen extracting crucial data from Hidden Leaf archives. Team Udon and Team Moegi discuss said data bandit at their favorite restaurant. Inojin explains to the others, that his father Sai has a description of the black-robed assailant. When Inojin further reveals that the Yamanaka Sensory System hadn’t sensed the intruder before or after the theft, Shikadai theorizes that it must be an inside job. Cho-Cho suggests they try to catch the assailant, and soon, Team Moegi begins investigating the streets of the Hidden Leaf Village. They begin investigating the tower Koji was hiding at, also finding tracks left behind by him. They hear someone come by so they ambush the person, thinking it is the thief. As it turns out, the person is an innocent passerby, Kakashi Hatake, the Sixth Hokage. Shikadai figures out, that Kakashi began investigating by himself as well, and the latter suggests they team up. Kakashi and Team Moegi begin staking out the hideout, awaiting the return of the perp. Inojin sees Koji Kashin from the sky and alerts the others, but the cloaked man begins heading towards a crowded main street to lose them. The man manages to fool Team Moegi, but Kakashi begins following Koji in the sewers. Shikadai surmises that Koji is planning to use the Thunder Train to escape the village so Leaf shinobi prepare themselves to ambush him on the train. Just as the train leaves, Cho-Cho tosses Inojin and Shikadai onto the train, while Koji enters the leaving train. Even though Shikadai holds Koji down with Shadow Paralysis Jutsu, they soon learn, that what they followed was just a Shadow Clone. Koji has seemingly fooled everyone, and hasn’t even left the village. He infiltrates the secret archives, but Kakashi has already arrived and taken away the scroll Koji is after. Kakashi realized, that Koji was after data about shinobi from before the Fourth Great Ninja War, which is not digitized like the data about shinobi from after, but still kept on Ninja Scrolls. Kakashi engages Koji in taijutsu, but Koji fools him with a Shadow Clone as well, and manages to escape using Toad Smoke Jutsu. As he is leaving, Koji ponders on his reasons for stealing the data as well as on the reason why Jigen hasn’t attacked the Leaf again. He figures out, that Jigen must have used most of his chakra up fighting Sasuke and Naruto, so he plans to make a move. Team Moegi and Team Udon meet with Kakashi in Senju Park, where the Sixth Hokage reveals, that Koji got away. Shikadai suggests Koji must have been after data about shinobi from before the war, because he must be one of those shinobi. Kakashi adds, that if his chakra signature is in the database, the Yamanaka Sensory System would not detect his presence. In the meantime, Koji Kashin has returned to Kara’s hideout, where Amado waits for him. Amado tells Koji, that Jigen is still at ten percent power and that if someone where to visit him now, it would be either for a very important reason, or to kill him in his sleep. Amado tells Koji that the remaining Inners are away from the base, and they won’t ever realize, that Koji and Amado’s true goal is to eliminate Jigen.

Koji Kashin waits for Amado to pack his belongings and data from Jigen’s experiments up. Amado arrives and notes that all their preparations are complete. As Amado begins entering Koji’s Steam Toad Summoning, Delta interrupts his escape, but Koji steps in. Though Koji prepares for a battle with Delta, Amado deactivates her body, using secret shutdown codes. Afterwards, Koji uses Reverse Summoning to send the toad carrying Amado back to the Hidden Leaf Village. On the outskirts of the village, Moegi watches as her team trains before going away, and Amado soon arrives and interrupts their training. Though Shikadai traps Amado in Shadow Paralysis Jutsu, the scientist disperses it and disturbs the kids’ minds with a Scientific Ninja Tool. Amado then knocks Shikadai out using a drug and places a device on his neck. Inojin manages to telepathically talk to his mother Ino and asks for Shikamaru. Ino contacts Shikamaru in the middle of a meeting about Kawaki’s body in the Hokage Office. Ino gives Shikamaru Amado’s message, that he’s the Kara scientist and he has his son strapped to a bomb. Moegi returns to the scene, after having gone out to buy snacks for her squad. She restrains Amado, but that doesn’t stop him from holding Shikadai’s life hostage, even though Sai and his ANBU squad surround him. Amado asks to speak to Shikamaru, who connects to him telepathically, thanks to Ino. She also connects Katasuke, Kawaki, Boruto, Sumire and Naruto to the link as well. Upon Naruto’s questions about his intentions, Amado reveals, that he wishes to defect to the Leaf and is willing to share his knowledge about the Kara, Jigen, Kara’s Ten-Tails and everything he knows about the Ōtsutsuki Clan. Sumire surmises that Amado seeks asylum at the Leaf, because he had already betrayed Kara. Naruto allows Amado to enter, if he is first restrained. Back at the headquarters of Kara, Koji interrupts Jigen’s rest, who then asks for his report. Naruto sits down personally to interrogate Amado. The Inner taunts Shikamaru, but Naruto calms his advisor. Kawaki reveals to the others Amado’s importance to Kara as well as the fact, that he was never allowed outside by Jigen, which must mean, that his presence in the Leaf is a treasonous act in itself. Naruto gives his word as Hokage, that Amado would be protected once he talks. Amado receives a transmission through his glasses and upon Naruto’s approval, the glasses are placed down to project Koji’s meeting with Jigen for everyone to see. Jigen reveals that he has already figured out, that Koji and Amado conspired to crash the airship and free Kawaki, to Kawaki's shock. Koji strikes at Jigen, who counters, but is then fooled by Shadow Clones. Koji reveals his motivations, that he was created to kill Jigen.
213 | "True Identity" Transcription: "Shōtai" (Japanese: 正体) | Ōri Yasukawa | Masaya Honda | August 29, 2021
As everyone watches through Amado's projection, Jigen questions Koji and Amado's motives. Koji declares that he has no interest in the Chakra Fruit as he was created to kill Jigen. Amado reveals that Sasuke and Naruto's fight with Jigen severely drained him, and now is the perfect time to eliminate him. Naruto seems unsure of Amado's motives, but the latter affirms that his true goal was always to kill Jigen as Koji begins his assault which disrupts the broadcast of the battle. Amado begins unraveling the mystery of Jigen, and the Ōtsutsuki Clan, who comes from another world. He reveals that the Ōtsutsuki want to attain godhood by absorbing all chakra from every planet using the Divine Tree and eat its Chakra Fruit. Meanwhile, Jigen absorbs Koji's Fire Style and figures out that Koji let the Leaf take Kawaki in order to learn more about Karma's weaknesses. Amado adds that he planted the coordinates to Kara's dimension on Victor's airship specifically for Sasuke to investigate and find the Ten-Tails. Amado says that the Ōtsutsuki always use a Ten-Tails to syphon a planet since it becomes a Divine Tree and that they use this process on every planet. Sai questions whether this would be Jigen's goal as well, but Sasuke surmises that it is actually the goal of the Ōtsutsuki that placed his Karma on Jigen and took his body over. Jigen indulges Koji in some taijutsu, before shrinking and using his rods again. Koji escapes and retorts on Jigen's taunts with his own, revealing that he knows his true name, Isshiki Ōtsutsuki, just as Amado reveals it to everyone at the Leaf. Amado also adds, that Isshiki has been on the planet for over a thousand years, having came partnered with Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, shocking Shikamaru. According to Amado, Kaguya turned on Isshiki for unknown reasons and managed to wound her superior enough, that Isshiki had to take over the body of an innocent novice monk named Jigen. Before continuing, Amado requests that he'll be allowed to stay in the Leaf officially, to which Naruto agrees, though the former adds, that the bomb stays on Shikadai's neck, until he has the agreement in writing. Using Boruto's case, Amado says that the Karma is basically the back-up file of an Ōtsutsuki, in this case Momoshiki, who will eventually take over Boruto's body as well. Amado knows of no method to stop the Ōtsutsuki rebirth process, demoralizing both Uzumakis. Sasuke notices some inconsistencies in Amado's explanation, such as the fact, that Jigen still has a Karma, despite Amado's claims that it dissipates once the Ōtsutsuki takes over. The scientist notes Sasuke's astute observations and tells everyone the reason for Jigen still having a Karma. Too weak to apply a Karma, Isshiki shrunk his body and enter Jigen's ear to take over his body to absorb nutrients for survival until he managed to take Jigen's brain over, speaking and acting through him. He would then apply a Karma seal on Jigen's body to resurrect in his true form sometime after. Jigen's Karma spreads, sprouting Isshiki's horn again and he lunges at Koji, who manages to trap him in quicksand. Naruto still prods as to why Isshiki didn't simply resurrect in Jigen's body as soon as he could. Amado says that Jigen was just an unlucky man who happened to be near Isshiki as his body is too weak to sustain Isshiki's powerful chakra and decided to look for a suitable Vessel, having found Kawaki after a long search. The toad reconnects with Amado's glasses and they can all see as Koji summon actual fire to incinerate Jigen, since his Karma can only absorb what is produced with chakra. Amado reveals that if Isshiki were to revive in his true form, in a suitable Vessel, he would be unstoppable, but plans to teach everyone how to kill an Ōtsutsuki.

As Jigen's body burns, Amado calms Boruto by saying, that the Karma cannot absorb the naturally occurring flames that were summoned upon him. Jigen begins shrinking the flames using Sukunahikona, but his body starts to crack and the flames engulf him once more. Amado explains, that Isshiki's ability, Sukunahikona allows him to shrink all objects, even flames, as well as his own body. He adds, that in his weakened state, Jigen cannot escape the flames and he’ll soon burn to death. Sasuke interrupts Amado, saying that since Isshiki currently has two Vessels marked with his Karma, Jigen and Kawaki, he'll just resurrect himself. He also questions why Amado would want Jigen to die, which would only leave Kawaki for the Ōtsutsuki to resurrect into, and as Amado had previously said, Isshiki would then be unstoppable. Amado assures him, that even though Jigen will soon be dead medically speaking, his body will still be viable for Isshiki's resurrection, thus forcing him to resurrect in a weakened state, in a weak body, which will not be able to contain his immense power for more than a few days. In an angry fit, Kawaki enters and lunges at Amado, but Sasuke stops him. Amado calms him and everyone else, by saying, that the decompression of the Karma will begin on Jigen's body automatically, because Kawaki's is still incomplete. As Kawaki's Karma spreads, the scientist also reveals, that the process will also wipe away the boy's Karma, so as to prevent the duplication of the Ōtsutsuki. Kawaki falls unconscious and Boruto checks his left hand, his Karma now being gone, signifying the revival of the Ōtsutsuki. Isshiki effortlessly begins shrinking the flames, the columns and everything in his sight with his special eye. He also shrinks the Toad, preventing Naruto and everyone else to watch the battle any longer. Amado reveals, that Koji Kashin will probably die in battle, as he is not powerful enough to defeat Isshiki now, telling everyone, that he already completed his mission of killing Jigen. Naruto shows concern for Koji, and says, that he and Sasuke should join Koji in battle, in order to beat Isshiki. Amado retorts, that it would be pointless, since Isshiki's goal now would be to implant another Karma on Kawaki, to finish the process and create a viable Vessel before his time runs out and dies. To prevent that, Sasuke and Naruto must stay in Kawaki's vicinity at all time. Isshiki begins taunting Koji, and shrinks his mask around his head, having already figured out his identity as a clone of the Legendary Sannin Jiraiya. Koji continues his onslaught of jutsu, but Isshiki instantly shrinks everything thrown at him. Isshiki curses Amado for his infallible plan, having lost Kawaki as a Vessel and having mere days left to live. Amado receives his papers, becoming a Leaf citizen, and reveals that the bomb collar on Shikadai is a dud. Koji goes into Sage Mode to be able to somewhat keep up with Isshiki, still intending to win. After blinding the Ōtsutsuki with Fire Style Jutsus, he attacks from above, using a Massive Rasengan, though Isshiki uses another of his unique jutsus, Daikokuten to drop enlarged columns he had stored in a pocket dimension onto Koji, stating that those pillars will now mark Koji Kashin's grave.

Isshiki cockily reveals the inner workings of his jutsu to the pinned Koji Kashin. He taunts the former Inner, saying that his last words would be relayed to Amado, before he would eventually be killed as well. Koji is barely able to summon his Steam Toad and escape in its mouth. At the Leaf, Naruto refuses Boruto's request to fight Isshiki by their side as he reasons that Boruto might get taken over by Momoshiki again. Sai interrupts, reporting that the evacuation has commenced. Amado reveals, that even if they could find a suitable place to hide Kawaki, Isshiki could still find him with his Byakugan, but Sai has something in mind. Sasuke stays behind, in order to talk to Boruto. The group follows Sai to the Foundation's underground headquarters, which isn't on official records and is built using a substance that the Byakugan's vision can not penetrate. Tsunade and Kakashi has gathered all the Leaf Shinobi, so that Shikamaru could warn them all of Isshiki Ōtsutsuki's impending arrival and inspire them to fight. Sasuke tells Boruto that both he and Naruto are ready to die for the village and questions Boruto's resolve. Ino connects to everyone in the village and tells them that Isshiki has arrived, who begins to look for Kawaki until he confronts Konohamaru, Rock Lee, Tenten, Kiba Inuzuka and Choji Akimichi. Despite her injuries, Sarada leaves the hospital, but Mitsuki prevents her from joining the battle. Naruto arrives to save his friends from Isshiki, who tries questioning the Hokage about Kawaki's whereabouts. Ino notifies Naruto that everyone in the vicinity has been evacuated, so he doesn't need to restrain himself. Naruto engages Isshiki but is kicked through several buildings and about to be crushed by Isshiki until Sasuke switches places with him. Sasuke tosses his blade at Isshiki, who tries shrinking it, only for it to turn into Boruto, who thinks back to his earlier conversation with Sasuke, where he had told his student, that if Momoshiki would take him over during the battle, Sasuke would stop him with all his strength, even at the cost of Boruto's life. Boruto had asked to wear Sasuke's Leaf headband, like he did against Momoshiki. Boruto reaches for Isshiki, who underestimates him long enough for Boruto to pull him into a portal his Karma made to another dimension with Naruto and Sasuke following them.

Isshiki realizes that he must kill Sasuke and Naruto to prevent their further interference and notices that Boruto's Karma has almost completely decompressed, making him valuable. Naruto and Sasuke try to keep up with Isshiki's immense power but he proves to be troublesome. Kawaki awakens, just as Shikamaru informs them of the situation. After trying to use his own Karma to get to them, Kawaki realizes he no longer has it. Amado tries to calm him, that even though Isshiki is much stronger and a worse opponent for them than Jigen, they still have a chance. Isshiki summons giant cubes from his Daikokuten pocket dimension to crush Naruto and critically injures Sasuke with his rods. Amado tells everyone that Boruto is valuable to Isshiki since he is a viable sacrifice for the Ten-Tails, as a live Ōtsutsuki is needed for the Ten-Tails to consume so that it could produce a Chakra Fruit as a Divine Tree. He also theorizes that this was Kaguya's role as well, being the weaker Ōtsutsuki between the two of them and that this was the original purpose of Karma, to sacrifice oneself to the Ten-Tails, then revive in someone else. In the meantime, Isshiki stops himself from killing Sasuke, since Boruto stepped in the way. Boruto notices his own value so he threatens to kill himself, but Isshiki shrinks his kunai and breaks his arm, saying that he can severely hurt him even if he can't kill him. Meanwhile, Naruto is heavily injured. Kurama asks him if he really is ready to lay his own life down for the good of Konoha, who responds that he has been ever since he started dreaming of becoming Hokage. Upon hearing this, Kurama reveals, that he has one last secret weapon for Naruto to use, which could turn the tides in their favor. Isshiki feels a massive power surge and sees Naruto crashing down in a new form with immense power and speed. Naruto remarks that he will take Isshiki down.
