Bulbulators is a Polish punk rock band playing since 1989.

History[]

The beginnings of the band are dated 1989, yet the idea and the name are dated five years earlier. After operation had been suspended Burak, the guitarist, decided to create new Silesian punk band. Together with Gienek - Dziobaty (vocals), Wojtek - Tic-Tac (bass guitar) and Landryn (drums) they had started rehearsals.

In 1991 the first concert took place, connected with clashes with locals. Iglak, at this time band's supporter took place in this event. In this time the band played mostly covers of 77 punk classics.

In spring 1993 few changes were made in band's line up. Adaś had changed Landryn on drums and Biker had taken vocals over, but those two soon left the band and Burak and Tic-Tac stayed as the only members. Due to that fact the band suspended operation for a while. Soon after Szpajza took the position of drummer and Iglak started as a vocalist. The first concert in this line up took place in 1997 in Jastrzębie Zdrój. The band decided to give up covers and start playing own songs with lyrics written mainly by Iglak. Another change in personnel was change of drummer for Łikend, who had played for the whole year after he was changed once again for Adaś.

Year 2000 brought recording of the band's debut album. Out of 17 songs recorded only 14 reached the final material. Soon after the record had been recorded, Tic-Tac left Poland, and from then on he only supported the band occasionally. During his absence Darek - Zielony and Sylwek Sęk exchanged for him. In May 2001, Paweł - Gruby took the bass player position. The band started working on the second album. In 2002, Bulbulators gave several successful concerts supporting The Exploited, Angelic Upstarts and The Business. Next year Adaś left the band going to Italy, passing his position on Jacek Nynek.

Preparations to record third album started in 2003. Meanwhile, the band was invited to record a song on an album . Before the concert in Slovakia in 2004 Nynek disappeared. Zyga became "emergency" drummer this time. The new drummer was Sensitive Rat, who had played in Bulbulators as Szpajza. The same year, during one of concerts Zygzak from once famous Polish band TZN Xenna appeared as a guest of Bulbulators. Later Zygzak would take part in recording several songs on the band's third album. In January 2005, the third album was released, not only containing song performed by Zygzak, but also several songs with wider instruments use (acoustic guitar, piano, trumpet).

The fourth album - Aut Punk Aut Nihil, was released in 2007 by the Noise Annoys label.

In 2009, the band released Deja Vu as a vinyl. The album was released in a limited edition of 500 copies, of which 100 were on a red vinyl disc. Side A of the album contains new versions of the tracks from the first two albums, side B shows selected tracks from the third and fourth albums.

The next album was Principes Mortales Punk Aeterna from 2010. Released in CD format, contains 11 new, original songs from the band, but following the example from the past, the musicians also reached for a cover this time, recording their own interpretation of the song "Come to such a night" performed in the original by the Niebiesko-Czarni band and Helena Majdaniec, but more popular by Czesław Niemen and the band Akwarele.

Stylistically and sonically, the new album is a continuation of the group's previous achievements, and the lyrics include Andrzej Bursa's poem "Slipper". The recording session for the album was attended by guests: the vocalist of The End group - Pauka and keyboardist Tomasz Drachus. The cover was designed by Michał Arkusiński.

The Inter Punk album was created in the Big Bit Audio recording studio in Rzeszów. Jacek Młodochowski, who worked with the band on previous albums: Punkophilia, Aut Punk Aut Nihil and Principes Mortales Punk Aeterna, supervised the recording. The album contains 11 premiere original songs and a cover of the band Śmierć Kliniczna, in which the author of the song Dariusz Dusza played a guest solo. Title track, which talks about the transnational dimension of punk, features vocalists from friendly bands: The Fialky (Czech Republic), Charge 69 (France), Argies (Argentina) and Wayne LOST SOUL from England. In two songs, on the keyboards they were supported by Magdalena Czerwińska from the band Alians. The album is designed by a graphic artist from Łódź, Michał Arkusiński.

The album Homo Polonicus was released at the end of 2020 and is the eighth album in the band's discography. It contains 10 premiere, original compositions, a cover of "Ambicja" from the repertoire of the legendary groups Deadlock and Kryzys and the re-recorded song "Uwierz w Siebie", known from the album Nie Nie Nie. The publisher of the album Homo Polonicus is Pasażer Records, the largest polish independent record label operating since 1990. The originator and creator of the graphic design of the Homo Polonicus album is our colleague, a comic book artist from Łódź, Michał Arkusiński. The album was recorded during 7 recording sessions at the end of 2019 and 2020 at the Waiting Room Studio in Oświęcim. Maciek Dzikiewicz is responsible for recording, mixing and mastering. Despite the unequivocal title and textual tour of Warsaw, the album also has a strong Silesian accent. It is the song "Fertich", the text of which was written in silesian language. The authors of the music on the Homo Polonicus are Krzysztof Latosiński and Artur Latosiński; the texts were written by Piotr Tohak and Krzysztof Kondratow. The exception is, of course, the cover of "Ambicja" and the lyrics of the song "Niemöller 2020". The latter is a modernized version of a poem by a German Lutheran pastor, anti-Nazi activist Martin Niemöller, originally written at KL Dachau in 1942.
