Bungei (magazine)

Bungei (文藝, "Fiction") is a Japanese literary magazine, published by Kawade Shobō Shinsha. It was founded in 1933, and was originally published monthly, but became a quarterly in the 1980s. The magazine oversees the Bungei Prize, an open competition for discovering new writers. Writers such as Yasuo Tanaka, , Risa Wataya, and are former prize-winners.

Along with Shinchō, Gunzo, Bungakukai and Subaru, it is one of the five leading literary journals in Japan.
