Burwood Plaza is a shopping centre located in the suburb of Burwood in Sydney's Inner West. It is a located a few hundred metres away from Westfield Burwood.

Burwood Plaza is anchored by a Woolworths supermarket and includes Tong Li Asian Supermarket.

History[]

Burwood Plaza first opened in 1978 on the site of Burwood's first theatre which opened in 1910. It was replaced by the Palatial Theatre which opened in 1921 and featured the first Christie pipe organ in a local theatre. The Palatial closed in 1971 and the space was used by the Royal Blind Society, then as a carpet showroom.[1] In late 2001, the Franklins Big Fresh supermarket which had been trading since at least the early 1990s, was closed and replaced with Woolworths. In November 2014, HOLDMARK Property Group acquired Burwood Plaza from Centuria Property Funds for an aggressive price of about $80 million.[2] On 14 November 2015, Toys "R" Us opened its store on the former Best & Less store.[3] Toys R Us closed by August 2018 and Daiso opened its store on the former Toys "R" Us store.
