Business to Arts

Business to Arts is a membership-based, charitable organisation that "brokers, enables and supports creative partnerships between businesses, individuals and the arts in Ireland. Established in 1988, the stated mission of the organisation is to build "creative partnerships between arts and business; so that the creativity and acumen of both communities develop quality cultural experiences and world-class collaborations".[1] Membership subscriptions by businesses & individuals form the primary source of funding for Business to Arts, together with funding from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

Business to Arts was incorporated on 24 August 1988 under the name "Cothú.[2] The objectives of the company were solely to promote the advancement and development of, and research and education in relation to, the Arts with a view to cultivating and developing public taste and appreciation of the Arts in Ireland.[citation needed]

Activities[]

The "Business to Arts Awards" have been run by the organisation since 1991. The awards "recognise businesses, philanthropists, artists and arts organisations that develop creative partnerships".[citation needed] The 30th anniversary of the awards is due to be celebrated in 2022.[speculation?] In a partnership with the daa (formerly Dublin Airport Authority), the awards given each year are "original" commissioned sculptures.[3]

Business to Arts has developed a series of Arts Funds[4] which aim to fund identified "areas of need and enhance and grow the practice and appreciation of quality arts experiences".[citation needed] To date,[when?] the organisation has worked with the likes of Accenture for the Women on Walls Campaign;[5] Bank of Ireland for the Begin Together Arts Fund;[6] Dublin Port Company for the Port Perspectives - Community Arts Programme;[7] and Dublin City Council for The Docklands Arts Fund.[8]

New Stream,[9] a project operated by Business to Arts, was established in 2009 to "strengthen the skills of the Irish cultural sector to generate new funding streams from non-public sources more effectively", and was funded by Bank of America Merrill Lynch and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. As part of the evolution of the New Stream programme,[tone] a 24-month Arts' Fellowship programme in partnership with Dublin City Council Culture Company, was initiated.[10] The Fundraising Fellowship, Ireland programme offers two small-to-medium size arts, cultural or community organisations part-funding toward the employment of fundraising or marketing & fundraising human resources contracted over a 24-month period.[citation needed]

"Fund it" is a crowdfunding website, run by Business to Arts, for creative projects in Ireland. The platform is designed to "support greater individual giving to the creative sector and facilitate pre-sales of creative projects".[promotional language] As 2021, "Fund it" had reportedly helped raise over €5.2 million and supported over 1,200 creative projects.[11]
