The Canon PowerShot G9 X is a digital compact camera announced by Canon Inc. on October 13 2015. The G9 X replaced the older Canon PowerShot S120 compact camera. The 1/1.7" inch sensor was replaced with a one-inch one. The zoom range was reduced from 5x to 3x to keep the camera small enough with the larger sensor. The camera was the smallest and lightest compact camera with one inch sensor and a zoom lens being a third lighter than the Canon PowerShot G7 X.
In January 2017 Canon announced the upcoming release of the PowerShot G9 X Mark II. It kept the small size being 3 grams lighter and replaced the Digic 6 processor with a Digic 7 processor, making the camera operations faster.
