The Cape Coral Police Department (CCPD) is the primary law enforcement agency for the City of Cape Coral, Florida. The Cape Coral Police Department has over 270 authorized sworn law enforcement personnel positions and more than 93 civilian and support staff personnel positions. The current chief of police is Anthony Sizemore.

History[]

The Cape Coral Police Department was founded in 1971, one year after the City of Cape Coral incorporated.

Bureaus[]

The Department is broken down into six bureaus all led by a captain.

Patrol[]

The Patrol Bureau is the largest bureau within the CCPD. The officers assigned to this bureau is what the public typically sees on the streets. The Patrol area is broken down in to three districts: North, Central, and South.

Communications and logistical support[]

The Communications and Logistical Support Bureau is responsible for all 911 emergency and nonemergency calls, radio communications, records management, uniform crime reporting, maintaining and issuing equipment, and court services. The Communications Center handles over 270,000 calls per year.

Investigative services[]

The Cape Coral Police Department Investigative Services Bureau is responsible for long-term, in depth, under-cover, or technical investigations of criminal activity occurring within Cape Coral. The Bureau is further broken down into 8 units: Major Crimes, Property Crimes, VIN (Vice, Investigations, & Narcotics), Economic Crimes, Forensics, Property/Evidence, Crime Analysis, and Victim Advocates.

Professional standards[]

The Professional Standards Bureau of the Cape Coral Police Department is responsible for recruitment, hiring, and training of Department personnel, the investigation of complaints against Department personnel through its Internal Affairs Unit, Payroll, the coordination of off-duty details, and the publication of Departmental reports and periodicals.

Special operations[]

The Special Operations Bureau is one of the most diverse bureaus at the Cape Coral Police Department. Special Operations includes- K9, SWAT, Crisis Negotiation Team, Motorcycles, Traffic, Aviation Unit, Marine Unit, Police Volunteer Unit, School Crossing Guards, and Police Explorers.

Aviation unit[]

The CCPD Aviation Unit's officers fly with the Lee County Sheriff's Office to help save money on equipment.

Community services[]

The Community Services Bureau is responsible for programs that build and deepen the relationship between the citizens and the Cape Coral Police Department and improve the quality of life in Cape Coral. The Bureau also includes the School Resource Officer (SRO) Program.
