The Cathedral Church of St. Fachtna, Ross, is a cathedral of the Church of Ireland in Rosscarbery, County Cork in Ireland. It is in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin.

Previously the cathedral of the Diocese of Ross,^[1] it is now one of three cathedrals in the United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross. Dating from the 1600s, it was extensively refurbished in the 19th century.

History[]

St Fachtna's is one of the smallest cathedrals in Ireland. It is the size of a typical parish church.^[2]

Fachtna of Rosscarbery came to the area in the sixth century; his monastery, a cruciform building, was replaced by the cathedral.^[3] This had been the principal monastery of West Cork; Brendan the Navigator taught there, and it was a school for international students in its time.^{[citation needed]}

The church is famous for its Irish Wolfhound mascot.^{[citation needed]}

The Cathedral contains a fine set of six bells in the key of G, which are regularly rung.^[4]
