The Cebuana Lhuillier Gems is a basketball team in the PBA Developmental League from 2011-2015. The ballclub is owned by the pawnshop and credit giant Cebuana Lhuillier and had previously played in the Philippine Basketball League during the 2006-07 season as Cebuana Lhuillier Pera Padala Moneymen. The team used to have a franchise before in the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association.
History[]
Cebuana Lhuillier (2001-2002 MBA seasons)[]
In the first phase of the 2001 MBA season, the former Cebu Gems became known as Cebuana Lhuillier Gems. The team finished the eliminations with 10 wins and four losses and are tied in the same standing with Andok's-San Juan Knights and Negros Slashers. They lost to Negros via two-game sweep in the best-of-three semifinal series. [1] They lost again to Negros, this time in five games for the Southern Conference title in the MBA second phase tournament that season.
Philippine Basketball League[]
Cebuana Lhuillier resurfaced in the Philippine Basketball League in 2006-07 season as Cebuana Lhuillier-Pera Padala under coach Luigi Trillo. They made it to the 2007 Unity Cup finals against Harbour Centre. The Batang Piers easily scored a 3-0 sweep over the Moneymen.
