Centerpoint High School is an accredited public high school serving students in grades six through twelve in the rural community of Rosboro, Arkansas, United States.

History[]

In 1995, the Glenwood School District in Glenwood, Arkansas, voluntarily consolidated with the nearby Amity School District in Amity, Arkansas. Construction began shortly thereafter on a new high school located at Rosboro. The new Centerpoint High School opened in August 1997 with Donis Smead serving as the first principal.

Leadership[]

Donis Smead (1997-2006), who served as the last principal of Glenwood High School, served as the first principal of Centerpoint High School beginning in 1997. Mr. Smead served for a total of nine years as CHS principal. In July 2006, he transitioned to Athletic Director/Curriculum Coordinator. Smead currently serves as pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Malvern, Arkansas.

Deric Owens (2006-2015), who had previously served as principal of Amity High School and Bismarck High School in Bismarck, Arkansas, transitioned from junior high principal, where he served from 2003 to 2006, to high school principal upon Smead's promotion. Mr. Owens served as principal for nine years until he was named superintendent of the nearby Caddo Hills School District.

Nic Mounts (2015–present) transitioned from Centerpoint High School teacher and coach to principal July 1, 2015, upon Owens assuming the superintendency at Caddo Hills.

Through the years, there have been several grade and administrative configurations. Others serving in leadership roles include:

Gail Parker- junior high principal (1997-2003)

Dewayne Curry- junior high principal (2006-2007)

Mike Jackson- middle school principal (2007-2012)

Jason Quast- middle school principal (2018-2021)

Bryan Fox- dean of students (2015-2021) and assistant high school principal (2021–present)

Nikki Tate- dean of students (2021–present)

Academics[]

Centerpoint High School is accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE). Students are required to complete at least 24 credits in order to graduate. There are four pathways that lead to a high school diploma. Those pathways include general curriculum, Honors and Advanced Placement (AP), Project 2020, and CAAST.

Project 2020
In 2017, a partnership was formed with Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas in De Queen, Arkansas, that allowed qualified students to concurrently enroll in both Cossatot and Centerpoint High School. As a result, students graduate with two associate degrees at the same time they graduate with their high school diploma.

CAAST
In August 2020, the Centerpoint Academy of Agriculture and Skilled Trades (CAAST) opened as a conversion charter school for students in grades 11–12. Funded by a $1.25 million grant from the Arkansas Public School Resource Center, CAAST is the only agricultural high school in the state of Arkansas.

Knight-Reddie Scholarship
Students who graduate with honors from Centerpoint High School may choose to attend college at Henderson State University without paying tuition or fees.

Co-curricular activities[]

The Centerpoint Knights compete in various co-curricular sports and activities in the 3A Classification.

The Knights sports teams include football, golf (boys/girls), basketball (boys/girls), baseball, softball, cross country (boys/girls), soccer (boys/girls), cheer, and track and field (boys/girls).

The senior high quiz bowl team is one of the most successful teams in the state. Under the direction of Sammie Benjamin and Joanna Sutton, they have appeared in eleven state championship matches and have won five state championships.

FFA
The FFA chapter is one of the largest chapters in the state, and students regularly serve as state officers. Current FFA advisors include Marcus Crawley, Jerry Fendley, and Billy Minton. Former advisors have included Troy Buck, Mickey Ford, Phillip Thomas, and Jerry Yates.
