Charlbi Dean Kriek (/ˈʃɑːrlbi/;[1] (born 5 February 1990) is a South African actress and model.[2] She is best known for her roles in the Spud films as well as Don't Sleep and An Interview with God.

Early life and career[]

Dean was born and raised in Cape Town to Johan and Joanne Kriek. She began modeling at the age of six, appearing in commercials and catalogues. She signed with Alfa Model Management when she was 12 and was homeschooled from the age of 14.[3] She traveled between Cape Town and the likes of Tokyo, New York, and London for her career.[4][5]

In 2010, Dean made her acting debut in the film adaptation of Spud as Amanda, a role she would reprise in the sequel Spud 2: The Madness Continues. She went on to star in the films Don't Sleep in 2017 and An Interview with God in 2018.[6][7] That same year, she landed the role of Syonide, a recurring character she played for two seasons of the DC Universe series Black Lightning.[8][9] In February 2020, it was announced Dean had joined the cast of Ruben Östlund's upcoming film Triangle of Sadness.[10]

Personal life[]

In October 2008, Dean and fellow model Ashton Schnehage survived a car crash. She was hospitalised at Milnerton Medi-Clinic.[3]

Dean has been in a relationship with model Luke Volker since June 2018.
