Robert Charles "Charley" Hughlett (born May 16, 1990) is an American football long snapper for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL).[1][2] He played college football at UCF.

Early life[]

Hughlett went to Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Florida, where he lettered all four years for the Terrier football team playing tight end and center before graduating in the Class of 2008.[3] At Hillsborough, Hughlett was named first team all-conference as a senior and second-team all-conference as a junior. Hughlett was selected for the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award. During Hughlett's Hillsborough career, the Terriers earned regional champion honors in 2004 as well as district titles in 2005 and 2006. Hughlett also earned varsity letters in track and field and wrestling.[3]

Collegiate career[]

In 2008, after also being recruited by The Citadel, USF, Holy Cross, and Brown, Hughlett decided to attend the University of Central Florida, where he played long snapper all four years for the Knights.[3] As a freshman, Hughlett earned Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors as a long snapper, after appearing in 12 games, including 3 tackles on special teams, in his rookie campaign.[3] As a sophomore, Hughlett appeared in all 13 of the Knights games. As a junior, Hughlett appeared in all 14 of the Knights games en route to earning All-Conference USA Second Team honors. As a senior, Hughlett appeared in all 12 games and again earned All-Conference USA Second Team honors.[3]

Professional career[]

Dallas Cowboys[]

Hughlett signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2012. He was released on August 27, 2012 and was re-signed on January 7, 2013. He was released on May 29, 2013.

2014 (Patriots, Jaguars, Chiefs, Browns)[]

Hughlett was signed by the New England Patriots during the 2014 offseason and was later released and was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was released by the Jaguars on August 25, 2014 and was signed to the Patriots' practice squad on September 1, 2014, however was released two days later. He was signed to the Cleveland Browns' practice squad on September 30, 2014 and was released a week later. He was later re-signed to the Patriots' practice squad and was released again. He was signed to the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad on December 17, 2014.

Cleveland Browns (second stint)[]

Hughlett was signed to the Browns active roster off the Chiefs' practice squad on December 24, 2014. In 2015, Hughlett played in all 16 games for the Browns handling all long-snapping duties. He resumed that role again in 2016 playing in all 16 regular-season games.

On February 16, 2017, Hughlett signed a six-year contract extension with the Browns.[4]
