Cheranmahadevi is a panchayat town in Tirunelveli district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
Town is located on the bank of Thamirabarani River. Cheranmahadevi has numerous historical temples located in and around the town. It has got a central government controlled archaeological temple named Bakthavachala vishnu temple which is considered to be a monument for its medieval carvings referring to the period of chola and pandiya kings. The temple was built in the year 1012-1044 A.D and devotees are allowed to worship on the day called vidhivadha. And Canadian canal is first such canal in Thamirabarani river now existing one of the third such a canal according to a report. Cheranmahadevi is a thaluk with several villages. Cheranmahadevi is about 20 km from Tirunelveli. The town is an important junction for route available from nagerkovil to tenkasi and connects tirunelveli to papanasam. The sub collector office of the Tirunelveli District Administration is located here.

As of 2001 India census,[1] Cheranmahadevi had a population of 16,320. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Cheranmahadevi has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 83% and female literacy of 71%. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
