Chi Muoi Lo is an actor, writer. As an actor, he is best known for co-starring in the Vanishing Son made-for-television eight-hour mini-series and syndicated television series. As a writer, director, and producer, his 2000 debut Catfish in Black Bean Sauce drew critical attention and film festival awards.

Early life[]

Chi was born in Phan Rang, Vietnam, to a Vietnamese mother and Chinese father. In 1978, three years after the Fall of Saigon, two-year-old Chi and his family escaped by boat to the United States.[1][2] Upon their arrival, Chi and his family were placed in the Indian Town Gap Refugee Camp where they became sponsored by the Jewish League of America and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[3] It was there that Chi was raised with his nine brothers and three sisters.[4]

Wanting to pursue acting as a profession, Chi entered the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as a drama major.[4] He also attended the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts, and Dr. Glory's Children's Theater in New York.[2] At Temple University, he was a theater major for one year then accepted a full scholarship from San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater.[4]

Career[]

Fluent in three languages, Chi has been honored for his acting and directing. His debut film as a director and producer is Catfish in Black Bean Sauce.[5] The film was named to Variety's "Top 50 of 2001 Limited-Release Winner At The Box Office" list. The film won the Grand Jury Award at the 1999 and Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature Florida Film Festival and Best Screenplay Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival.[1] The film was named Best Feature Film and Audience Favorite at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.[3]

Chi's acting career includes a key role as Dr. Greg Lee from the 1997 horror film The Relic.[6] Chi's other film appearances include Indecent Proposal, Hot Shots! Part Deux, Gleaming the Cube, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, China Cry, Vietnam War Story: The Last Days and Kindergarten Cop.[2]

Chi is perhaps best known for his lead role as Wago Chang, the title character, in the Vanishing Son made-for-television 8 hours mini series and syndicated television series.[4][7] He has also had a recurring role in In the Heat of the Night,[8] starred in TV movies Faith of My Fathers, Shannon's Deal, and Spike Lee's Sucker Free City as well as guest appearances in Nip/Tuck, Cold Case, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Smallville, Malcolm in the Middle, Spin City, Suddenly Susan, NYPD Blue, Law & Order, Northern Exposure, Night Court, China Beach, Equal Justice, Tour Of Duty, Quantum Leap, and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr..[4] Chi was very smart with his money, brought 2 houses in the 90's, one in Los Angeles and one in Philadelphia. Chi invested his money in stock market. One of the few actors in Hollywood who were very smart with his wealth. Sold both houses in 2008 and 2017 for a huge profits.

Chi is the founder of Actor's Consortium and served as its artistic director from July 2002 through May 2005.

Chi is the owner of Allen Edelman Management since 2002 (Valued 1.5 million). Chi's clients include Karen Malina White (Lean On Me, Malcom & Eddie, Monster: The Jefferey Dahmer Story), Steven Krueger (Yellowjackets, The Originals and Roswell: New Mexico), Tyler Christopher (General Hospital and Days of Our Lives) and Richard Whiten (The Island, Two and Half Men, The Morning Show).[9]

Chi is the Owner of Black Hawk Entertainment, Inc (Valued at 3.5 million). Chi is producing "Life in Threes" which he has also written. He been in the acting business over 30 years. [10] The series features a number of experienced members film industry, including actors, producers, and directors. Guest appearances include: Casting director John Frank Levey (ER, Shameless, West Wing), top agent Todd Eisner (A3 Artists Agency, APA, Innovative Artists Talent & Literacy Agency, Inc.), episodic director Nancy Hower (Teachers, Quick Draw) and award-winning actress Karen Malina White (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, Mom, Malcolm & Eddie, Shameless, Lean on Me).[11] Both will premiere in early 2021. Sales on the series is in the million. His 2000 cult favorite "Catfish In Black Bean Sauce" was re-released for streaming on Amazon on December 22, 2020, and made available on Apple TV, Google Play, and RedBox in January 2021. "Catfish In Black Bean Sauce" is one of the top rental on Amazon. Reportedly bring in 2 million for Chi Muoi Lo in 2021. The film had been off the market since 2009. The film is more popular then ever, which been option to write a TV pilot.
