Christian Carlassare (1 October 1977) is an Italian Comboni priest who from 8 March 2021 is the elected bishop of the Diocese of Rumbek, a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in South Sudan.[1] Until that date, he was vicar general at Diocese of Malakal.[2]
At he moment of his election, he is the youngest Italian Catholic bishop.[3]
Carlassare was shot at by unknown assailants on or before 26 April 2021. In the night individuals knocked on Carlassare's door, and when he answered they fired upon him, striking him in both his legs.[4][5][6] Afterwards Carlassare was described as being in serious condition but expected to survive.[7]
