Cindy Kyounga Chung (born 1975)[1] is an American lawyer who has served as United States Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania since 2021.[2]

Education[]

Chung earned a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1997 and a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School in 2002.[3]

Career[]

In 2002 and 2003, Chung served as a law clerk for Myron H. Thompson. She then joined the New York County District Attorney's Office in 2003, serving as an assistant district attorney until 2007 and as investigation counsel in the Official Corruption Unit from 2007 to 2009. From 2009 to 2014, Chung served as a trial attorney in the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. She later joined the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania, serving as deputy chief of the major crimes division. From 2014 to 2021, she served as assistant United States attorney.[4][5]

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania[]

On October 27, 2021, President Joe Biden nominated Chung to be the United States attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania.[6] On November 19, 2021, her nomination was confirmed in the United States Senate by voice vote.[2] She was sworn into office on November 23, 2021, by Chief Judge Mark R. Hornak.[7]
