History[]

City University was established in 1973 as City College by Dr. Michael A. Pastore to provide higher education for working adults. First opened in rented office space in the Lyon Building in downtown Seattle,[2] over the years, the school has expanded its locations worldwide and negotiated partnerships with other educational institutions to offer certificate and degree programs. As of 2014, City University of Seattle has graduated more than 50,000 students worldwide.

Accreditation[]

In November 2013, the School of Management received full accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).[3] The School of Management was previously accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

In addition to regional accreditation, City U's Project Management degree programs are accredited by the Project Management Institute (PMI.org) making City U one of only a handful of schools worldwide to achieve this accreditation.

Albright School of Education[]

The university's School of Education is named after Dr Gordon Albright, a long serving teacher and principal in the Seattle School District, who spent several years on the Seattle University faculty. He advised the university at its founding, laid the groundwork for its School of Education in 1989, and guided the approval of its teacher preparation by the State of Washington, and is also credited with the initial design of the Master of Education programs.[citation needed] He retired in 2000 and the School of Education was named in his honor.

School of Management[]

Although based in the Pacific Northwest, the university has established a presence around the globe by annually conferring degrees locally on three continents. Programs are established in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Mexico, Canada, Australia and China. The School of Management launched one of the first MBA programs in Eastern Europe [5] in 1991 and one of the earliest government approved foreign MBA programs in China in 1996. This has led to partnership with local colleges and universities in eleven countries. In 1999, the university's business school entered a partnership with Institutul Bancar Roman and the Romanian National Bank to offer business education and training to commercial banks and financial institutions. A partnership was also formed with CETYS Universidad, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and UPAEP[6] of Mexico to offer business education.

School of Arts & Sciences[]

The school offers certificates and undergraduate or graduate degrees for individuals in the fields of communications, counseling, human services, or psychology.

School of Applied Leadership[]

The school offers the Doctor of Education (Ed.D) in Leadership, a Master of Arts in Leadership, and a Master of Education in Adult Education programs.
