John Clark Howat (January 22, 1918 – October 30, 2009) was an American film and television actor.
Life and career[]
Howat was born in Calaveras County, California.[2] He began his career in 1947, as appearing in the Broadway play The Wanhope Building,[3] playing the roles of the "Interviewer" and "Pilot".[2]
Later in his career, Howat began his film career in July 1947, playing the role of the "Patron in Macy's Lunchroom" in the film Miracle on 34th Street.[citation needed] He continued his career, mainly appearing in numerous films with uncredited roles and co-starring roles.
In his career, Howat appeared in numerous films, as many of his credits includes, The Doctor and the Girl, Customs Agent, Airport,[4] My Blue Heaven and California Passage, among others.[5][6][7][8] He also appeared in numerous television programs, as many of his credits includes, Dragnet, Highway Patrol, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Navy Log, Tales of Wells Fargo, Bat Masterson and The Millionaire, among others.[5][6] He has also wrote an episode for the crime drama television series The Detectives,[8] on the episode titled "Walk a Crooked Line", in 1962.[citation needed]
Howat also starred and co-starred in other films, as it includes, Billy Jack,[4] playing the role of "Sheriff Cole",[9][10] The Hitch-Hiker, playing the role of the "Government Agent",[7][11] The Giant Claw, playing the role of "Maj. Bergen"[7][12] and The High Powered Rifle, playing the role of "George Merkle".[7] He began appearing on television in 1952, appearing in Beulah, playing the role of "Pete Bradley". In 1956, Howat played the main role of "Dr. Jack (John) Petrie" in the short-lived sitcom television series The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu.[13][14]
In 1985, Howat retired his career, last appearing in the television series T.J. Hooker.
Death[]
Howat died in October 2009 in Arroyo Grande, California, at the age of 91.[15]
