Clark Richert (born 1941, Wichita, Kansas) is a contemporary artist largely known for his colorful geometric paintings, but whose practice includes animation, video, intervention, happenings, publishing, and the development of Drop City, an artist community near Trinidad, Colorado.[1] He is considered to be one of Colorado's most important artists.[2]
Life and education[]
Richert earned a BFA from the University of Kansas in 1963 and an MFA from the University of Colorado in 1972.[3] His brothers and father were mathematicians, and at a young age he developed an interest in geometry. He first became aware of Buckminster Fuller's work in high school, and it has been a strong influence on Richert's own work ever since.[4]
Exhibitions[]
Richert has exhibited at venues across the U.S., including the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, California; Brooklyn Museum, New York; Denver Art Museum, MCA Denver, and Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Colorado; and Walker Art Center, Minnesota.[3] His work can be found in the collections of the Nelson-Atkins Museum, Wichita Art Museum, Denver Art Museum, and Container Corporation of America, among other places.[5]
