Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3 (TBA)[]

Sony Pictures Animation CEO Kristin Belson has stated that there is likely to be a third installment in the franchise stating: "Ultimately they will come and rebuild Swallow Falls for renaming it "SparksWood" and they will come to terms with that, which they will do in this next chapter. Because of the way that movie concludes there’s probably one more for them."[1] However, in October 2013, Sony Pictures Animations' head of worldwide marketing, Anne Globe, said, "It's too early to tell. There hasn't been a lot of discussion about that."[2] Cody Cameron, who co-directed the sequel, spoke of the possibility of the third film, noting, "Two things have to happen. One is that the world has to want Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs 3, because if they don't want it, it doesn't matter what we do. And the other thing is even if the world wants Cloudy 3, we have to make sure that we have an idea that is incredible, that is great, that is unexpected. If the audience wants it and we have a great idea, we will see – maybe." Let's Make Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3 Happen In 2023! [3] On June 12, 2014, the film was scheduled to be released on November 15, 2019.[4] In November 2014, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3 was removed from the release schedule following a warning by a group calling themselves the Guardians of Peace, along with a portion of the confidential data taken during the hack, Sony Animation's new policy to release 2-4 films a year and the commercial failure of the animated television series based on the film that premiered on Cartoon Network that ran from February 20, 2017 - June 30, 2018 for Sony still focusing on Hotel Transylvania as their profitable franchise.[5][6] In May 2021, Kris Pearn said about the film: "There are things in the works, nothing is announced yet, but I think they'll show their faces once more..."[7]

Television series[]

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2017-2018)[]

On October 9, 2014, DHX Media announced that it would develop and produce a television series based on the film franchise, titled Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, released on March 6, 2017 in the United States and April 6 of the same year in Canada.[1] The series is traditionally animated and consists of 26 22-minute episodes.[1] It takes place before the first film, showing Flint Lockwood as a high school student who dreams to become a serious scientist.[1] In his adventures, he is joined by Sam Sparks, a new girl in town and the school's "wannabe" reporter, along with Flint's dad Tim, Steve the Monkey, Manny as the head of the school's audiovisual club, Earl as a school gym teacher, Brent as a baby wear model, and mayor Shelbourne.[1] DHX Media handles the global television and non-US home entertainment distribution, along with worldwide merchandising rights, while Sony distributes home entertainment in the US.[1] Commissioned by Teletoon in Canada, the series airs on Cartoon Network in the United States,[2] and on the Boomerang channel in other territories.[3]
