Comet is a 2014 American romantic comedy-drama film directed and written by Sam Esmail. The film stars Emmy Rossum and Justin Long. The film had its world premiere at LA Film Festival on June 13, 2014. It was released on December 5, 2014, by IFC Films.[1]

Synopsis[]

After meeting by chance at a meteor shower, pessimist Dell and insightful Kimberly begin a six-year journey through a relationship that blossoms and fades over time. The film is shown through glimpses of parallel universes and flashbacks that are not chronologically ordered, showing the viewer the progression and depression of their intricate relationship.

Release[]

The film had its world premiere at the LA Film Festival on June 13, 2014. The film went on to screen at the Twin Cities Film Fest on October 22, 2014.[4] on October 28, 2014, it was announced IFC Films had acquired all distribution rights to the film.[5] The film was released on December 5, 2014, in a limited release and through video on demand.[6]

Reception[]

Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a score of 41% based on reviews from 29 critics.[7]

Variety called it a "misfire" but praised the lead performances.[8] /Film praised the film overall but criticized the main character Dell for bordering on pretentiousness, and also criticized the writing as being slightly indulgent.[9]
