Complete Works of Voltaire

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Complete Works of Voltaire (Œuvres complètes de Voltaire) is the first critical edition of the totality of Voltaire's writings (in the original French) arranged chronologically.[1][2] The project was started by the bibliographer and translator Theodore Besterman who only lived to see the first two volumes published.[2][3] It is currently published by the Voltaire Foundation at the University of Oxford.

Each text is given an introduction, variants and detailed annotations. The first volume was published in 1968; the edition will comprise nearly 200 volumes by its completion.[4] 200 of the 203 volumes have been appeared.[5] In 2010, the foundation was awarded the  [fr] by the Académie Française for this fifty-year project.[6]
