A counter is a piece of furniture. Counters consist of a countertop, a raised surface which can be used to place objects or serve food on them. Similar to a table, counters are typically raised platforms, but are often embedded into flooring as fixed installations. Chairs or stools are often arranged around a counter for seating purposes.

Counter uses[]

  • Check-out counters are furniture for servicing customers, consisting of a table that divides the seller's and buyer's space. Goods are put onto this table for counting, accounting, and delivering goods.
  • Bar counters are counters used for serving drinks. Its height depends on style.
  • Kitchen countertops are typically found in a home or restaurant and used for preparing food. Often beneath the countertop are drawers and cabinets for storing cooking utensils.
  • Laboratory countertops are flat surfaces or worktops used to store equipment used in a laboratory.
