Cristian Călin Panin (born 9 June 1978) is a retired Romanian footballer who played as a right back or left back. He is currently the team manager at CFR Cluj.

Club career[]

UTA Arad[]

Panin began his career at UTA Arad, spending seven seasons at the senior squad of The Old Lady, six in the second league and one in the first league.[1]

CFR Cluj[]

During the summer of 2004 he moved to CFR Cluj.[1] Panin played 9 games in the 2005 Intertoto Cup when the team reached the final.[1][2] He spent 9 seasons wearing the Feroviarii's shirt and although numerous players, including Swedish international Mikael Dorsin, have attempted to replace him, he still remained a key player in CFR Cluj's first team.[3] Panin helped CFR Cluj win three Liga I titles, three Cupa României, two Supercupa României, as well as appearing in 9 Champions League matches and in 10 Europa League matches.[1][4]

International career[]

Cristian Panin played two games for Romania, making his debut on 19 November 2008 when coach Victor Pițurcă introduced him in the 25th minute to replace George Ogăraru in a friendly against Georgia which ended with a 2–1 victory.[5][6] His second game was a 3–1 victory against Faroe Islands at the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.[5][7]

After retiring[]

After retiring in 2013, Panin joined the technical staff of CFR Cluj as a team manager.[4] Panin had performed several club functions during his time in staff of the club.
