There are 4,952 Russian Cypriots living in Cyprus, according the 2001 census, many of them in Limassol.[1] Numbers are said to have increased significantly since then and some estimates place the number as high as almost 40,000 considering all ethnic Russians on the island.

The first major wave of migration occurred in the 1990s following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Those who immigrated during that period have largely integrated into Cypriot society, although remain a distinct community. Such integration applies less with the more recent wave of Russian immigration.
