History[]

In 1997, after extensive research in image and video processing, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (Switzerland) developed the SimulCam™ technology.[4]

The technology met with considerable success from TV producers and sports viewers. As a result, five international business and IT specialists founded InMotion Technologies Ltd. in December 1998 to commercially develop SimulCam™ and other digital imaging applications. SimulCam™ technology was followed by StroMotion, launched in January 2001.[5]

Once again, innovation by InMotion Technologies Ltd. was met with considerable success from TV producers and sports viewers. The small start-up quickly grew and became well known for its ground-breaking digital image enhancements in the sports broadcast world. Based on its technological know-how, Dartfish soon branched out into other growth areas such as software for sport performance analysis/improvement.

Dartfish TV[]

In 2008, shortly after the creation of Youtube and Dailymotion (2005), Dartfish created the first Private Video Platform dedicated to sport performance analysis. In total, Dartfish TV has attained more than 70 million views, from more than 1 million videos stored and used by more than 6 million sport performance users.

Mobile Apps[]

In 2012, the popularity of iPhones (launched in 2007) and of iPads (2010) led to voluminous feature rich App development. Dartfish joined the App revolution, creating several mobile applications, with nearly 1 million Dartfish Apps downloaded worldwide. The combination of the Dartfish App + Dartfish TV (cloud video platform) + Dartfish Software, offers a unique environment for increasing content circulation, and by helping sport performance professionals improve their work, because the road to excellence and success is all about teamwork.

Latest innovations[]

Always on the cutting edge of technology, in 2019, Dartfish focused on machine learning’s latest innovations in the areas of computing vision and artificial intelligence. Hence, Dartfish opened a subsidiary for Research and Development in Latvia to develop a player and puck tracking real-time solution, in partnership with the IIHF.

Today, Dartfish employs more than 70 people with offices in Fribourg, Switzerland, Atlanta, USA, Seoul, Korea, and Riga, Latvia.

Technical Details[]

Dartfish.TV is an integrated solution across multiple platforms (software, online, mobile) that allows users to capture videos, tag events real-time, to upload, organize, and then share the videos on a personalized and customized Dartfish TV channel. Tagging enables users to bookmark specific events or a series of events in their videos, so that users, including coaches, athletes and corporate managers can identify specific stats and/or important video moments and directly navigate or share.

Dartfish Software is used by athletic coaches to break down and analyze the movements as well as to categorize videos to create an index of events. The software uses digital video graphics to deliver instant visual feedback, for analysis, to improve processes and performance and training, as well as risk management and HR functions.[11] [6]

Use[]

120,000+ have used Dartfish over the years. That includes 72% of the Olympic medalists in Pyeongchang, who were Dartfish users. The Dartfish network of users also includes major league sports teams, Olympic committees from multiple nations, federations, colleges, and universities, high schools, prep schools, branches of the military, industry and medical professionals, as well as athletes and students at all levels in numerous academic fields.

Sports[]

Dartfish video motion analysis is widely using with athletes to capture visual data, both in individual and team sports. And in team sports, many clubs benefit from video match analysis solutions to prep for matches and to observe during competitions. Dartfish Video analysis is used to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of players and teams. Managers and the coaching staff can then provide feedback to the players for analyzing individual and team performance.

Game Analysis[]

Dartfish game analysis tools (my Dartfish 360 S, myDartfish Live S, and myDartfish Pro S) provide specific technical and tactical info and stats such as team shape, midfield pressure, ball possession, crosses, and chances created, as well as zone coverage. Also, elements of decision-making can be highlighted. To complement the statistics, the analyst can produce a video presentation to support change-ups at the next team-talk review.

Mouvement Analysis[]

Video motion analysis solutions (myDartfish Mobile, myDartfish 360 and myDartfish Pro) are used to acquire informed visual data for movement correction and improved performance by athletes. This includes gait analysis, sport replays, speed and acceleration calculations. And for team or individual sports - task performance analysis.

Video analysis allows athletes to take a critical look at their performance to improve skills and prevent injury. Recording a player's performance with Dartfish video analysis solutions, helps reveal small details & techniques that are often missed when watching a play live.

Data Analysis[]

The Dartfish Research and Development Department in Riga, Latvia has developed a computer vision solution, provides automatic player and puck/ball tracking. Machine learning and artificial intelligence are now at the center of Dartfish developments.

Healthcare[]

The Dartfish video analysis software package dedicated to healthcare, is a very effective and complete solution, which includes all necessary functionality to analyze human movement. The use of motion analysis provides powerful and objective data for making gait and biomechanical assessments and for creating patient protocols. The video imaging assists and reinforces communication with patients and practitioners. Video analysis allows instant visual feedback giving patients a clear visual understanding for corrections needed in their posture/movement workout protocols.
