David R. Gilmour (born 1958)[1] is an American diplomat who is the designate to serve as the United States ambassador to Equatorial Guinea.
Early life and education[]
Gilmour was raised in Bridgeport, Michigan, where he attended Bridgeport High School.[2] He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saginaw Valley State University and a Master of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin.[3]
Career[]
Gilmour is a career member of the United States Foreign Service. He previously served as deputy assistant secretary of the Bureau of African Affairs and was the United States ambassador to Togo from November 7, 2015 to March 9, 2019. He also served in embassies in Panama City, Panama; Lilongwe, Malawi; Geneva, Switzerland; Sydney, Australia, and others.[4]
On August 6, 2021, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Gilmour to be the U.S. ambassador to Equatorial Guinea.[5] On August 10, 2021, his nomination was sent to the Senate.[6] TheSenate Foreign Relations Committee reported favorably and on December 18, 2021, he was confirmed by the United States Senate by voice vote.[7]
