Debre Markos University (DMU) is a public university in the city of Debre Markos, Ethiopia. It was established in 2005 and has been growing fast.

Overview[]

The Debre Markos University (DMU) is found at Debre Markos town which is located in north western part of Ethiopia. The town is 300 km (190 mi) northwest of the capital, Addis Ababa and 265 km (165 mi) southeast of Bahir Dar, the capital of Amhara National Regional State. It is geographically located at 10.3330N37.7170E with an average altitude of 2,446 m (8,025 ft) above sea level. It has conducive weather condition with 1,380 mm (54 in) and 180 cm (71 in) average annual rainfall and temperature respectively. DMU is found in the area endowed with potential resources, such as the Choke Mountains water-shade which covers six different agro-ecology zones within 50 km (31 mi) radius with various bio-diversity and the source of many tributaries to the Nile, and Upper Blue Nile Gorge. The corner stone of DMU was laid at January, 2005 GC. Two years later, DMU started the teaching-learning process within 760 regular students, 53 academic and 34 supportive staffs, 21 contract servants and its name officially declared as Debre Markos University (its acronym DMU). Currently, DMU extensively expands its programs to 51 first degree, 47 second degree and 2 third degree (PhD) in regular, continuing and distance educations. These programs are given at three centers, namely Main campus at Debre Markos, Burie campus at Burie and Bichena at Bichena. DMU has been providing competitive and skilled graduates to the national and international organizations in 11 round graduation ceremonies in first and second-degree programs. In addition to these, 126 medical doctors graduated in three rounds.

The university currently has three campuses, five colleges, two schools, and three institutes.
