Richard Taylor (28 November 1901 – 25 May 1962)[1] was an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne and North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
Taylor played as a centreman, and made his VFL debut in 1922 with Melbourne. He was a member of their 1926 premiership side and represented Victoria at interstate football during his time at Melbourne. In 1927 he finished equal second behind Syd Coventry in the Brownlow Medal count.
He moved to North Melbourne in 1932 where he was appointed captain-coach. He got suspended after a fiery game and was barred from coaching for 4 weeks. Charlie Cameron filled the role in his absence.[2]
Midway during 1934 he resigned in disgust at the attitude and performance of the players. He said I am disgusted with the team, and after North's showing I feel there is nothing else for me to do but resign.[3]
