Dictionary of Irish Biography

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dictionary of Irish Biography (DIB) is a biographical dictionary of notable Irish people and people not born in the country who had notable careers in Ireland, both north and south.[1] It was published as a nine-volume set in 2009 by Cambridge University Press in collaboration with the Royal Irish Academy (RIA), and contains about 9,000 entries.[1] An online version is available on a subscription basis, and new entries are added to that version periodically.[2] In October 2020 the RIA announced that the online DIB will become open access in spring 2021, with funding from the Higher Education Authority, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Dublin City Council Libraries.[3]
