Dierbergs is a supermarket chain based in Chesterfield, Missouri, that, along with Schnucks, dominates the St. Louis County grocery marketplace. The chain operates 25[1] stores in both Missouri and Illinois. The company now employs more than 5,000 employees, making it one of the top 25 largest employers in the St. Louis metro area.[4]

History[]

The chain was founded in 1854 by William Dierberg. In 1929, William turned the business over to his three sons, Bill, Fred & Vallie (Butch). The following year, the company moved into a new building in Creve Coeur. By 1968, the chain had 3 stores. In 2013, it opened its first location outside of the St. Louis metro when it expanded to Osage Beach, Missouri, near the Lake of the Ozarks.[1]
