Digri (Sindhi: ڊگھڙي‎) (Urdu: ڈگری‎) is a town in Mirpur Khas District Sindh, Pakistan. It is the second largest town of mirpurkhas district,

Geography[]

Digri is connected to several towns by main roads:

  • Tando Gulam Ali road (Talpur Colony) and (Azizabad Village) Dumbalo
  • Tando Bhago Road (Baloch Colony Road)
  • Kangora (Mirwah Gorchani Road) (Shajabad)

Communities[]

Digri is a culturally diverse town. As the small town has grown rapidly in the last few decades, the diversity has also increased with Sindhi, baloch, Punjabi, and pashtoons living there. 70% of the population of Digri are [[Sindhi people. The most common languages in the town are Sindhi, Panjabi, Urdu and Dhatki. Since the city is made on ancestral land of talpurs, from the beginning talpurs were in control of the town committee. There was a migration of educated Lagharis families from Sanghar, Nawabshah, Badin and Mirpur Khas to the Rahim Yar Khan.

Balochs and Jadgals live in ward #9 of the Baloch Colony, and to a lesser extent in ward #11 of Mir Feteh Town, Yousafabad. The leader of the Baloch and Jadgal community is Sardar Naveed Jadgal Baloch, District Vice-President of the Pakistan .

Malhi community that related to Hinduism religion, also have been residing since the separation of Hindustan. This is among one of the most oldest community here in Digri that have been residing since then till now. Their most of the population is populated in the Urban region of this city Called Malhi Para (Society) that is located in the Ward no.5. This people belonging to this community are also very active in the Business, Agriculture, Real sate and now marking the peak towards the Education also. Many people have already been graduated from renown public universities. This journey not end here only, Along with this many of them are also serving as Medical Doctors and Engineers both in public and private organization. Now due to the high demand of education many of them has already created a history by successfully winning many Foreign scholarships in the field of Engineering. Recently in Oct 2020, A student named "SURESH KUMAR KESRANI", has also achieved one of novel PhD Scholar award from Spanish Government, to pursue his PhD from Spain. Moreover he is one who has achieved novelty within the community. Furthermore he has been contributing in the Science and Engineering technologies by publishing his research work in world´s best International Journals like Spriner, IEEE XPLORE and many other.[1]

People's Party.

Most of the Punjabi families in Digri are living in the Yosafabad and Ghareebabad colonies as well as Alabaad colony. A not-for-profit organization, Research to Organize Sustainable Empowerment (ROSE), is operating in the town for the development of Digri.

Digri is ruled by the Pakistan People's Party. Some notable governors that have been associated with Digri Town are Mir Hayat Talpur (Late) , Mir Ali Ahmed Talpur , Mir Tariq Talpur (Current Member of Provincial Assembly) Babu Hanif Arain (Ex Diputy chairman Mc) & others

Economy[]

Livestock and poultry rearing, agricultural farms, and transportation are the main sources of income, while more than 20% population rely on government and private jobs. A sugar mill, Digri Sugar Mills, provides further job opportunities for local people.
