Dogs of War is a Vertically scrolling video game run and gun game published in 1989 by Elite Systems for the Amiga and Atari ST.[1] The music for the game was composed by David Whittaker.

Gameplay[]

The game is centred around a free-lance mercenary whose goal is to carry out many different types of assignments all over the world such toppling local governments and rescuing kidnapped children.[2] The levels in Dogs of War consist of a multi-directional scrolling shooter where the player must overcome enemies who drift along in certain patterns on the screen to reach a goal. Example of goals include saving someone's kidnapped son, retrieving a valuable piece of art or killing a criminal.[3] All missions end in the same way with the mission either ending up successful or unsuccessful based on the players performance. The levels over time however become increasingly harder as the game progresses and the player will be challenged harder than in the previous levels. However, the reward for finishing each level is a monetary prize in which one can upgrade their inventory which can help make the missions become easier and give the player an added advantage.[4] Weapons in the game include pistols, Kalashnikovs, chain guns, grenades, rocket launchers and a flame thrower. Rocket launchers are needed to take down heavy obstacles such as turrets, military jeeps and tanks. Players can complete the game solo although there is a two player option available for players.
