Edward Beckles

Edward Hyndman Beckles[1] (1816 – 5 December 1902)[2] was the Anglican Bishop of Sierra Leone[3] from 1860 until 1869.[4]

He was born in Barbados in 1816,[5] educated at Codrington College Barbados and ordained in 1843. After resigning his episcopal see he was Minister of Berkeley Chapel, Mayfair,[2] Rector of Wootton, Kent and finally Vicar of St Peter, Bethnal Green.[6] At some point he gained a Doctorate of Divinity (DD).
