The Edwards River is a river located in the north of New Zealand's Canterbury region. It is the northern of the two rivers in New Zealand of this name.
A tributary of the Waiau River, it skirts the northern slopes of the , flowing south then west for 15 km before joining the Waiau.
The river rises on the southern slopes of the , close to and . It initially flows south through a steep sided valley before turning westwards. In its middle reaches, the river's valley is broad and wide, with the river becoming a braided river with shingle banks. At its western end, it passes through a steep-sided gorge close to its junction with the Waiau.
