London Elstree Aerodrome (IATA: QEE, ICAO: EGTR) is an operational general aviation aerodrome located in Elstree, and is situated 2.6 nautical miles (4.8 km; 3.0 mi) east of Watford, Hertfordshire, England.

Elstree Aerodrome has a CAA Ordinary Licence (Number P486) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee (Aldenham Aviation LLP).[2]

The aerodrome has one runway aligned roughly east–west. The runway (08/26) is 2,136 feet in length making it suitable for most light aircraft up to the size of a King Air/Pilatus PC-12. In 2021 the airfield had three PC12's based on the field and despite the short and undulating runway it attracts visiting PC12's most days.

Alongside the 'fixed wing' operations, Elstree is home to over 25 helicopters ranging from the Robinson R22, R44 and R66, Cabri G2 to the Augusta 109 Trecker Augusta 119 Trecker, Airibus EC120 and four single turbine Airbus, AS350 recently joined by an SD2 variant AS350, two AS355 Twin Engine Airbus AS355'S and MD520 Notar.

In September 2021 the existing helipad that had five numbered spaces was redefined as Heli Apron East and an extension with a link where Spot One previously existed was defined as Heli Apron West. This expansion provided a further seven parking spots that are primarily used for small piston helicopters.At the same time further investment was made in adding a 2nd Jet A1 fuelling facility to cope with the increased movements of Elstree-based Turbine helicopters such as the Augusta 109, AS350, AS355, Robinson R66 and MD520N. There are two Helicopter Schools[6] Elstree alongside a Charter operator Hilti[7] that carries out London tours from Elstree and Battersea

Operations[]

The aerodrome was returned to civil aircraft operations in 1946 and has since been used by aero clubs and private pilot owners for the basing and operation of single and twin-engined light aircraft and helicopters. There is a large wartime built Bellman hangar and a number of smaller hangars. recent expansion has seen the addition of two large hangars occupied by new residents ICE London Aviation [8] and Hilti Helicopters with a new hangar for Sloane Helicopters[9] that have added Elstree to their existing locations

A flight information service for arriving, departing or transiting aircraft is provided by "Elstree Information" on a frequency of 122.405 MHz.[10] and on the same frequency when required under the designation of "Elstree Radio" if the service requires downgrading due to staffing availability. The aerodrome has a field elevation 11 milibars lower than the regional pressure setting and is 311 feet above mean sea level (AMSL)

Flightsharing[]

As of 20 November 2017 internet based cost sharing platforms are prohibited from operating at Elstree Aerodrome. Pilot's Notice 04/17 – "Montclare Shipping Company Limited as the licensee of Elstree Aerodrome hereby serves notice that with immediate effect flights utilising internet based cost sharing platforms (for example Wingly) are prohibited at Elstree."
