Emily Rose Compagno (born November 9, 1979) is an American attorney, TV host, and former National Football League (NFL) cheerleader who currently appears as a contributor on Fox News Channel (FNC). She is a co-host of Outnumbered, and frequently appears on the late-night show Gutfeld!.

Early life and education[]

Compagno was born in east Oakland's Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, Oakland California[1] and raised in El Cerrito, California,[2] the daughter of Katherine (née Bertsch) and John Compagno. Her father is of Italian descent.[3] She has two sisters.[4] Her great-grandfather, William Harry Bertsch earned a Silver Star during World War I;[5][6] the "Rose" in Emily's name honors Bertsch's wife.[7]

She graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Washington where she was awarded the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps' Cadet of the Quarter Award.[2][8] She graduated with a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2006.[2]

Career[]

After passing the California bar, she worked as a criminal defense attorney in San Francisco while also serving as captain of the Oakland Raiders cheerleading squad, the Raiderettes.[2][8] The NFL selected her as an Ambassador and she promoted the NFL brand in Beijing and Shanghai, and was one of five NFL cheerleaders selected by the USO to visit U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Kuwait.[2]

Compagno was a Senior Judge Judicial Extern for John T. Noonan at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.[8] She then went on to work as a federal attorney at the Social Security Administration.[8] She has also held legal positions in Cape Town, South Africa, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[8]

In 2018, Compagno accepted a position at Fox News as a contributor and legal analyst. She served as a semi-regular co-host of the weekday talk show The Five and appears on other FNC programs, such as Gutfeld!, offering opinions or legal analysis on the news of the day.[8] On March 9, 2020, Crimes That Changed America, a show on Fox Nation hosted by Compagno, debuted its first season.[9]

Compagno was named a permanent co-host of Outnumbered on January 25, 2021. Her co-hosts are Harris Faulkner and Kayleigh McEnany.,[10] although she occasionally guest co-hosts The Five.

Compagno took a positive stance regarding the mass firing of 900 Better.com employees during a Zoom videoconference. Speaking on Outnumbered of the decision made by CEO Vishal Garg to execute the layoffs; Compagno said ""I loved this, I love this so much! ... I love that for 900 people he stayed safe and he let them know that their theft was no longer tolerated. For all of them, they're probably snowflakes! They’re probably millennials and [Generation Z]s. They need to learn work ethic!" [11]

Personal life[]

On September 13, 2017, she married Pete Riley, whom she met as a teenager and reconnected with on a Seattle sidewalk, at Hotel Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, Italy, on the Amalfi Coast.[12] There were no guests and the wedding photographers, Jos and Tree WoodSmith, described it as an elopement.[13] They have no children as of 2021.
