Englerophytum is a group of trees in the family Sapotaceae described as a genus in 1914.[3][4]

Englerophytum consists primarily of trees. Their leaves are leathery with dense appressed hairs on the undersides.[2] The genus is widespread across tropical and southern Africa.[1] It is found in the countries of Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cabinda, Cameroon, Cape Provinces, Central African Repu, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, KwaZulu-Natal, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Northern Provinces, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zaïre and Zimbabwe.[5]

The genus name of Englerophytum is in honour of Adolf Engler (1844–1930), a German botanist,[6] and also; phytum, a Greek word meaning "plant".
