Erin Healy (born April 22)[citation needed] is an American politician serving as a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives from the 14th district.

Career[]

2018 election season[]

In 2018, Healy ran for one of the two South Dakota House of Representative seats in District 14. She ran against the incumbents, retired veteran and community figure, Larry Zikmund[1] and retired teacher Tom Holmes[2] who were both running for re-election in the district. Also in the race was Democrat Valerie Loudenback vice-president and owner of Grand Prairie Foods.[3] On November 6, 2018 she won the seat with 25.5% of the vote along with Larry Zikmund getting re-elected with 26.5% of the vote.[4] Healy was one of 11 Democrats who were either re-elected or elected into the house and one of 19 women who were either re-elected or elected.[5]

2019–2020 legislative session[]

On January 5, 2019, Healy was sworn in at the South Dakota capitol building ahead of Governor Kristi Noem's inauguration. Her colleagues chose her as the party whip alongside Oren Lesmeister and on January 8, 2019, her first session as South Dakota 14th District Representative has started.[6] She served as the Vice-Chair for the Joint Committee on Reducing the Overall Use of Acute Mental Health Hospitalizations and also, she serves on the Education Committee and Health and Human Services Committees.[7] Healy prime sponsored four bills including HB 1011, SB 96, SB 97, SB 194.[8] She also co-sponsored thirty-eight bills, see them all here.

2020 election season[]

In the 2020 general election of November 3rd, 2020 Healy ran for re-election against Mike Huber who is a fellow Democrat. Also, Healy ran against nurse Taylor Rehfeldt and Tom Holmes who are Republicans. On the general election of November 3, 2020, full vote counts were not yet released. But at around 6 p.m. on November 4th, 2020 all election information for Minnehaha County was officiated by the South Dakota Secretary of State. Healy had gotten 26% of the vote in District 14 which re-elected her to the South Dakota House of Representatives alongside Taylor Rehfeldt with 28% of the votes.[9] Mike Huber and Tom Holmes did not get a high enough percentage of votes to be elected to the house. Healy was one of 23 ( up by 4 seats) women either re-elected or elected to the House and one of 8 Democrats (down 3 seats) re-elected or elected to the House.

2021 legislative season[]

Healy will serve as one of two representatives of South Dakota's 14th District alongside starting in January of 2021.
