She is the middle child in her family, with two older sisters and two younger brothers. Growing up, she was passionate about science, and enjoyed doing science experiments in her kitchen with her mom. The summer before her senior year of high school, she participated in MIT's Research Science Institute.[3][4] While accepted to Stanford University in 2018, Erin Smith deferred her acceptance to become a 2019 Thiel Fellow.[1] She started attending Stanford in 2019, planning to major in Symbolic Systems.
FacePrint[]
While still in high school, Erin was watching video's of Michael J. Fox, when she noticed that people with Parkinson's Disease had distant smiles and laughs. Around the same time, she watched the show Lie To Me, and became obsessed with the monitoring of faces. She developed FacePrint, a software to detect Parkinson's Disease by monitoring the patients reactions to different objects on the screen, including emojis and commercials.
