Fåberg
Fåberg is a village and former municipality in Innlandet county, Norway.
The parish of Faaberg was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). On January 1, 1964 Fåberg was incorporated into the neighboring municipality Lillehammer. Prior to the merger Fåberg had 13,381 inhabitants.[1]
The Fåberg district contains the villages of Fåberg and Jørstadmoen. Combined, they form an urban area with a population of 1,342.[2]
The name[]
The municipality (originally the parish) was named after the old farm Fåberg (Norse Fágaberg) because the first church was built there. The meaning of the first element is unknown; the last element, berg, means mountain.
Until 1921 the name was written "Faaberg".
