F2: Fun and Frustration is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language comedy film written and directed by Anil Ravipudi. Produced by Dil Raju and Sirish–Laxman under Sri Venkateswara Creations, the film stars Venkatesh, Varun Tej, Tamannaah, and Mehreen Pirzada. The music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad. The plot follows Venky (Venkatesh) and Varun (Tej), who marry Harika (Tamannaah) and Honey (Pirzada) respectively. After their marriages, they try to control their wives.

The film was released on 12 January 2019 during Sankranthi, and grossed over 127 crore against a budget of 30 crore.[2][3] F2 was featured in the Indian Panorama Mainstream section of the 50th International Film Festival of India.[4] A sequel titled F3 is under production and is scheduled for release on 27 August 2021.[5]

Plot[]

Venky and Varun are caught by police and interrogated by Officer Viswanath, and Venky narrates his past. Venky has married Harika, who he met at a marriage proposal. At first, his life was enjoyable, but his wife Harika takes advantage of Venky's innocence and starts tormenting him. Harika's sister, Honey, enters their home and creates more trouble between Harika and Venky to stay at their house. Varun narrates his own story, and talks about Honey, who he helps win the culture festival in her college. Venky catches Varun and Honey hugging and challenges Harika's family that if they can prove Honey has a boyfriend, all of their family must become his slaves. Venky successfully proves Honey's relationship and wins the challenge. However, Harika's family covers it up saying that they already knew about it so they do not need to follow Venky's orders. Despite Venky's warnings about Honey Varun moves on with marriage. After six days of incidents caused by Honey and Harika and their mother, Venky and Varun escape with Venky's neighbor Prasad as the three agree that a husband is essential to a woman. Venky, Varun, and Prasad leave for Europe. They learn that Harika and Honey are marrying Dora Swamy Naidu's sons who are businessmen in Europe and Harika and Honey's family friend. Venky and Varun enter the house of the would-be grooms to stop the weddings. After some funny incidents Venky and Varun drink and come to take Harika and Honey with them. Dora Swamy tells them that the girls told him what happened the night before and both of them get arrested. After Wiswanath takes them to his home he explains that men are supposed to understand women and their feelings. After they both go and rescue Harika and Honey from a bridge accident they both take them away and Varun marries Honey. At the end, the movie indicates a sequel, F3.

Release[]

Theatrical[]

F2: Fun and Frustration was released in the Telugu language worldwide on 12 January 2019 coinciding with the Sankranthi weekend.

Home media[]

The film was dubbed into Hindi and released on 14 July 2019 by Aditya Movies.[7]

Reception[]

Critical response[]

Y Sunita Chowdhary of The Hindu wrote: "This family drama’s appeal stems from good casting. Venkatesh plays his comic part to perfection consistently and capitalizes on Ravipudi’s dialogues with great timing and flourish. One is reminded of his glorious projects in the past. Varun Tej also impresses."[8]

Firstpost gave 3.5 out of 5 stars and stated "F2 manages to entertain quite a lot and it's well-intentioned. It wants men to understand the importance of saying ‘sorry’ and ‘I love you’ when it matters the most. In the film, Venky and Varun might have learned their lesson the hard way, but they do unravel the secret to a life of happiness — that you don’t have to learn Venky Aasan, but just follow what Pradeep says right from the beginning till the end — Anthega Anthega".[9]

The Times of India gave 2.5 out of 5 stars and said "Give it a go for Venkatesh, who saves this film from sinking into oblivion. But give it a cold hard miss if outdated humor and gender tropes are not your cups of tea."[10]

Box office[]

F2 grossed 7.2 crore on opening day in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and ₹12.9 crore worldwide.[11] By the third weekend, the film grossed $2 million at the United States box office,[12] and by the end of its full theatrical run, it grossed more than 127.2 crore worldwide and wound up as the fourth highest grossing film of that year.[3]

Sequel[]

After the success of F2, Ravipudi and Raju planned a sequel named F3. The film is scheduled to release on 27 August 2021.[13][5]
