Fahad Ahmad (born 2 February 1994) is an Indian student leader and social activist, who had served as the General Secretary of the Tata Institute of Social Science Student's Union.

Early life and education[]

Ahmad was born on February 2 1994 to Zirar Ahmad and brought up in Baheri. Ahmad led the social campaign and also directly assisted families that could not afford to go on Hajj.[citation needed] Ahmad joined the Aligarh Muslim University in the ninth grade, and graduated. After graduation, he joined the Central University of Himachal Pradesh for Masters in Social Work. He received an M.Phil. in Social Work at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Ahmad was elected as General Secretary of TISS Student's Union 2017–2018. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. and his M.Phil. His thesis was on the Muzzaffarnagar Riot of 2013.

Activism[]

Ahmad led a protest for more than 100 days with more than 1000 students against the rolling back of the fee waiver for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other backward class students during his tenure as the General Secretary of the TISS Student Union in 2017–2018. Prakash Ambedkar also supported students for this.[12]

Ahmad was Mumbai's face of Anti-CAA protests and has attended several rallies across the country for two months.[13][14][15] He was a part of the Wankhede silent protest that happened during the India vs Australia ODI series.[16][17] Ahmad gave the statement and called the CAA unconstitutional.[18][19] In December 2019, He led the August Kranti Maidan protest.[20][21][22]

Ahmad with more than 100 volunteers, distributed food kits across eight centers in Mumbai slums.[23] Every Saturday evening they provided food packets to 210 families.[24] The group also distributed around 100 sanitizers to on-duty police personnel.[25]

Controversies[]

Tata Institute of Social Sciences denied students for clearance after Ahmad refused to accept an M.Phil degree from the chairperson of the university S. Ramadorai during the convocation ceremony.[32]

Tata Institute of Social Sciences denied Ahmad registration into the PhD program after his refusal to receive his M.Phil Degree.[33][31] Tata Institute then gave an order that describes Ahmad's action as an insult to the university.[34][35][36]
