Fiona Sarah Wade (born 20 March 1979) is an English actress, known for playing Priya Sharma in Emmerdale since 2011.[1]
Career[]
Wade's theatrical credits include the role of Kim in Miss Saigon both in the UK and Sweden, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Maria in West Side Story, Gujarati Preethi in Strictly Dandia and the title roles in adaptations of Cinderella and Aladdin. In the United States, she had a brief stint as Anya Vicenze in 24Seven. In March 2005, she took on the role of Princess Anjuli in the West End musical adaptation of MM Kaye's The Far Pavilions. Her British television credits include Joanna Day in the long-running children's drama Grange Hill, Julianna McKenzie in Holby City and the recurring guest role of Decca in Doctors.
In 2006, she starred in regular ITV Sunday night drama Where the Heart Is, as Rowan Clayton. Her roles also include Sameen Azizi in two episodes of the BBC One school-based drama series, Waterloo Road, the daughter of a family who came to the UK illegally, from Iran. In spite of the best efforts of Tom Clarkson and Danielle Harker to keep Sameen here, she accepted she had to go home back to her own country with her family and gave herself up to the immigration officials. In 2008, she played Mamta in a play called Alaska by DC Moore at the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs.[2] Her other credits include Anhil Edwards in Silent Witness, Nita in Casualty, Amira in BBC TV Drama Five Days, and Helen, the young mother of Carmen Howle in Tracy Beaker Returns. Since 2011, Wade has played Priya Sharma in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale.[3] Her first appearance was in November 2011.[4] In January 2017, Wade took part in the primetime ITV entertainment series Dance Dance Dance.[5] Her dance partner was Ronnie Del Barrio; they were the first act to be eliminated from the series.
Personal life[]
Wade's mother is Filipina and her father is English. She married fellow actor and former Emmerdale co-star Simon Cotton in 2019.[6]
