Fly Me to the Moon (Japanese: トニカクカワイイ, Hepburn: Tonikaku Kawaii, lit. "Adorable Anyways" or "Cute, No Matter What"), also known outside Japan as Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kenjiro Hata. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday since February 2018. The story surrounds the teen genius Nasa Yuzaki and his developing relationship with his new wife, Tsukasa, who saves him in a car accident at the beginning of the story. In North America, the manga is licensed by Viz Media. An anime television series adaptation by Seven Arcs aired from October to December 2020 on Tokyo MX and other channels.
Premise[]
On a snowy winter night, Nasa Yuzaki, a boy with a peculiar name, encounters a beautiful girl after he received his practice exam grades for high school. When he tries to talk to her, he gets hit by a truck. After the girl saves him, Nasa miraculously follows her at a bus stop and he confesses his love for her. The girl, Tsukasa Tsukuyomi, agrees to become his girlfriend, but only if they are married first. When Nasa, who had previously decided to not go to high school in order to look for Tsukasa, reaches his 18th birthday, he is still thinking about the promise he made on that night. Suddenly, Tsukasa shows up at his doorstep with a marriage form, starting their relationship and their marriage.

- An everyday genius, Nasa grew up ridiculed for his strange name, similar to the American space agency NASA, although his parents meant for his name to reference the starry sky. He has a meeting with fate when he was caught in a terrible accident but was saved by Tsukasa. Declaring his love for her, on the day they met, Tsukasa agrees on the condition that he marries her to which Nasa immediately responded with an unshakable "yes". Two years later, Nasa reunites with Tsukasa carrying a marriage form to which they turn in to the bureau, legalizing their relationship. Since marrying her, he becomes incredibly awkward around her, somewhat clingy to an extent because he is worried she would disappear on him again, but does his best to make her happy.

- After saving Nasa, she agrees to his confession only if he will marry her. Disappearing for three years, she returns to Nasa's side with the paperwork necessary to legalize their relationship. During the early chapters, she makes a point of the legal name change she underwent upon becoming Nasa's spouse, initially teasing him with her now being named Tsukasa Yuzaki. After she marries Nasa, she begins showing new parts of herself, such as her massive love for movies and manga. She also does not like the idea of spending a lot of money for necessities. Later on, her thoughts while observing Nasa makes it clear she loves him for being such a pure hearted, kind soul. When Tsukasa got to meet Nasa’s parents, his father privately thanked her for saving his life as both gave their blessings to their newlywed life. Throughout the story, layers upon layers of mystery are laid upon her and there have been many comparisons of her similarities to Princess Kaguya. The mystery is finally resolved with the revelation that she is the daughter of a character from that story, given immortal life through the elixir of immortality which he was ordered to burn.

- Nasa's junior and the primary caretaker of the Arisagawa public bathhouse, she is the most explicit supporter of Nasa's relationship to the point where she educates both Nasa and Tsukasa in ways of advancing their relationship as well as attempting to forcefully create situations with the same goal of relationship advancement in mind.

- Nasa's classmate and a complete airhead, she has explicit feelings for Nasa. However, she understands the circumstances, fully supporting his relationship with Tsukasa.

- An adopted relative of Tsukasa, whom she regards as her sister. She jealously disapproves of the marriage and orders her maids Aurora and Charlotte to discredit Nasa. Until learning of the marriage, she regarded Nasa much more kindly. Her actual relation to Tsukasa is not yet clear, though both share a grand aunt, Tokiko.

Manga[]
Fly Me to the Moon is written and illustrated by Kenjiro Hata, the author of the manga series Hayate the Combat Butler. He had previously announced his desire to create a new series in November 2016.[15] Fly Me to the Moon started its serialization in the 2018 12th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday, with a two-chapter debut on February 14, 2018.[16][17] Shogakukan has collected its chapters into individual tankōbon volumes, with the first one published on May 18, 2018.[18] With the release of its second volume on August 17, 2018, a teaser video was released for Fly Me to the Moon featuring Japanese musical group Earphones.[19] As of August 18, 2021, seventeen volumes have been published.[20]
In February 2020, Viz Media announced that they licensed the manga for an English release.[21] The first volume was published on September 8, 2020.[22] As of July 13, 2021, six volumes have been released.[23]
A fanbook, titled Tonikaku Kawaii Kekkon Kingenshū (トニカクカワイイ公式ファンブック 結婚金言集), was released on December 18, 2020.[24]

Anime[]
An anime television series adaptation was announced on March 4, 2020.[46] The series was produced by Seven Arcs and directed by Hiroshi Ikehata, with Kazuho Hyodo writing the scripts, Masakatsu Sasaki designing the characters, and Endō composing the music.[47][5] It ran for 12 episodes from October 3 to December 19, 2020 on Tokyo MX, ytv and BS-NTV.[48][49][b] Akari Kitō performed the opening theme "Koi no Uta (feat. Tsukasa Yuzaki)" (恋のうた（feat. 由崎司）, "Love Song (feat. Tsukasa Yuzaki)"), while KanoeRana performed the ending theme "Tsuki to Hoshizora" (月と星空, "Moon and Starry Sky").[7][50]
Crunchyroll streamed the series in selective territories as part of its Crunchyroll Originals label.[51] In Southeast Asia, Plus Media Networks Asia has licensed the series and they aired it on Aniplus Asia.[52] On November 11, 2020, Crunchyroll announced that the series would receive an English dub, which premiered on November 20.[6]
On December 19, 2020, it was announced that the series would receive an original video animation (OVA), which was released on August 18, 2021.[53][54]

After regaining consciousness, Nasa chases after Tsukasa wanting to go out with her as gratitude for saving his life, and Tsukasa agrees only if they get married when they are old enough to do so. After getting discharged from the hospital, he took the entrance exam the following year, but decided to work instead of attend high school hoping to meet Tsukasa again. The two go shopping for a bed and returns with a futon for Tsukasa to sleep on. During the night, Tsukasa has trouble sleeping and rolls over, prompting her to drink some water. After returning, she inadvertently pulls Nasa's comforter off his bed, leaving Nasa in the cold for the rest of the night. | With the apartment lacking a bathtub, Tsukasa and Nasa head out to a bathhouse after having breakfast. Nasa introduces Tsukasa to Kaname Arisugawa, Nasa's former underclassman who runs the bathhouse along with her older sister Aya. After Tsukasa enters, Kaname asks Nasa about his relationship and expresses her disapproval, while demanding him to make Tsukasa happy. Over on the women's side, Tsukasa meets Aya wanting to scrub her back. After bathing, Tsukasa gets to know more about Aya as she was Tsukasa's classmate in middle school. After the two pass a chapel with an ongoing wedding, Nasa rushes off to take care of an errand while asking Tsukasa to return home. | Tsukasa returns to the apartment, and shortly after arriving, her foster sister Chitose Kaginoji knocks on the door after tailing her. Chitose is informed that Tsukasa is married much to her disbelief. Nasa returns home and is greeted by Chitose, who kidnaps him and takes him to her family's mansion after finding out that he is Tsukasa's husband. She comes up with a scheme to break up the marriage by having her maids Charlotte and Aurora use tabloid journalism. While Chitose argues with the maids, Nasa slips out and tries to hide, but is found by Charlotte. While trying to get Nasa to submit, Charlotte accidentally breaks the nitrogen casing that preserves Tsukasa's precious moon rock, and Nasa manages to get it temporarily fixed. Chitose then lashes out at Nasa about him not really knowing who Tsukasa is and claiming that she is the only person who can make her dream come true. Aurora creates a scandalous photo, but Tsukasa arrives to confiscate it. Tsukasa and Nasa escape the mansion through a secret passage and share their first kiss. | |||||

Later at the bathhouse, Nasa tells Kaname about his verbal commitment to Tsukasa, which she tells him that it is important for him to buy an engagement ring. After leaving the bathhouse, the two stop by at a nearby park and kiss while Charlotte and Aurora secretly observe them. That night, Nasa learns the difference between engagement and wedding rings. Afterwards, Nasa insists that he has to buy a diamond ring. The next day, the two go shopping in Omotesando, and Nasa is shocked at the price tag for a Honey Winston diamond ring, but is talked into buying one until Tsukasa drags him out of the store. Tsukasa tells Nasa that she does not want him to spend his savings on a ring. Instead, the two stop by at a jeweler in Okachimachi with affordable diamond rings but the price is still too much to get Nasa to understand. Chitose manages to separate the two by having her maids take Tsukasa to the manga museum she had been wanting to visit, leaving Nasa to go on a date with Chitose as a test to determine if he is worthy of being Tsukasa's husband. While Nasa struggles not knowing enough about Tsukasa, he manages to convince Chitose by talking about the accident and various mathematical principles. Tsukasa and Nasa check out the model for the new apartment, but get sent to the wrong one inside a luxury high-rise complex. After visiting the luxury hotel apartment, Tsukasa lets Nasa know that home is wherever he is. Sometime later, Tsukasa decides to help out with chores at the bathhouse, and Kaname thanks Tsukasa for saving Nasa. | Chitose and her maids find out that Nasa and Tsukasa's apartment burned down. When Chitose asks Tsukasa where she is living now, Tsukasa lies in order to get away from her. When Tsukasa arrives at the bathhouse, she notices several video game consoles and Nasa staring at a takoyaki plate. Once he learns what it is, Nasa decides to throw a takoyaki party. Just then, Chitose arrives and she attempts to bribe Tsukasa by promising to buy a few consoles, which Aya overhears. Aya then wonders if Tsukasa can really cook. After she enjoys her cooking, everyone plays Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. Tsukasa, Aya, and Chitose later agree to have a tournament where Nasa has to do anything the winner asks. After Aya wins it, Tsukasa decides to play the original Street Fighter against her. As such, they form a bond. | Tsukasa is excited when she receives a new smartphone. Once Nasa sets it up for her, she begins using it to exchange contact information with Nasa, Kaname, and Aya. Later that day, Tsukasa becomes lonely while Nasa is working at his old job. When he finally comes home early in the morning, they embrace each other in his futon. While Tsukasa is working in the bathhouse, she and Nasa are embarrassed when they recall what happened. Elsewhere, Chitose hangs out with her maids. The manga had over 250,000 copies in circulation as of October 2018,[57] over 400,000 copies in circulation as of February 2019,[58] and over 1 million copies in circulation as of October 2019.[59]
In 2019, Fly Me to the Moon was one of the winners of the 5th Next Manga Award in the Print category.[60]
